Don't forget that all they give are estimates. The best keyword tool IMO is writing a really long hub about the subject filled with anything you can think of
I don't use WordTracker anymore. I use Google's keyword tool ONLY to narrow down the list of possible keywords so that I am only picking higher paying keywords, and then I use SEOBook's keyword tool.
Darkside has written quite a bit on this subject. You should look up his stuff.
I use wordtracker's free keyword tool to find the keywords http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/. I then use the suggestions found in google keyword tool. Google keyword tool narrows down high paying adsense keywords with traffic.
I then check the narrowed down keywords in google search with seo firefox plugin to see if I can compete and get good rankings with said keyword.
Second your common sense, see which keyword is being repeated in your competitor website. It shows that keyword is popular and regularly searched, make sure to add it.
I also use the Google keyword tool , but as most have mentioned they are only estimates , I haven't tried the free wordtracker tool , will give it a try
