How to Stay Positive and Keep a Good Outlook During Down Times
When life deals you a hard blow in the gut, it’s mighty difficult to look up and smile. Hard times can get you down in a heartbeat and then drag you through the mud while you’re in the gutter. It is so easy to allow depression to consume your mind when you feel this low. That’s why it is important to stay positive, even when things look really bad.
Stop dwelling on the negative.
When you’re feeling down, it’s not so easy to think positive. But if you try really hard, you can change your thought process. The first step you should take is to stop thinking about all the terrible things that are happening in your life right now. The more you think about the bad stuff, the more horrible your life will seem to you.
Find something good to think about.
Take a look around you. There are good things in your life right now. You just can’t see them because you’ve been looking at and thinking about the bad stuff for so long. Think about something good in your life. Are you healthy? Are your children happy? Do you have a roof over your head? Turn away from the bad and think about something good in your life.
Brainstorm possible positive outcomes.
When you face difficult times in life, it’s natural to automatically drum up a bad domino effect scenario in your mind. You naturally think about all the bad things that will happen, based on what’s going on right now. This only leads to feeling even more depressed about your situation. Instead, sit down and brainstorm all the positive things that could come from this hard time in your life. What good might come from this? What positive changes might happen in your life because of this?
