Alzheimer's, dementia, is there a positive side?
For some one on the ouside looking in there could be......
"Oh momma, that little girl looks just like me!" She said as we approached the hospital.
As I turned to look, I saw a beautiful little girl with her hair pulled back, tied with a big pink bow, long dark ringlets hanging down her back. She wore a beautiful old fashioned, flowered dress, the full skirt fluttering in the summer breeze....I smiled as I imagined her at that age,
We entered the hospital, checked in as usual. We then proceeded to the radiology department.
At this point my girl can't stand by herself and needs help getting from her chair to the table. A big handsome guy in radiology said to her " May I have this dance? " As her face lit up with a radiant beautiful smile she shyly shook her head yes. He leaned down and wrapped his arms around her under her arms and lifted her straight up and twirled her a couple of times slowly looking into her eyes. As he dipped her he laid her on the table and said "thank you for this dance sweet heart". He was still leaning over her smiling and her face lit up hugely, smiling back, giggling, she said "If my momma could see me now she would killllll me!" in her slightly southern bell sounding voice.
As I tucked her back into bed tears came to my eyes as she said "Momma what a wonderful time I had today, you wouldn't believe!" I kissed my girl and said a prayer for her. My girl was in her mid 80's and in such a wonderful place somewhere in time that safety and innocense was still abounding in her life..... I said a little prayer for myself as well..... Dear Father, if I should be stricken with this painful disease please let me be stuck in a good place in my life also, Amen.
