In moderation, fluoride can be good for the health of your teeth. Of course, there are risks if your consumption is too great but this will depend on the type of toothpaste you use (some have a higher concentration) and whether your local water supply does include elements of fluoride.
For children, fluoride is not really recommended as their teeth are still developing and this could have more of a harmful effect than anything. If you want to be sure what is best for your own oral health then I would advise that you ask your dentist, who will be able to offer a more personal answer.
