What To Get Jesus for His Birthday!

Updated on December 20, 2012

It has been asked; if it's Jesus' birthday then why is everyone else receiving the gifts?

Part habit , part tradition, part commercialism, and certainly pure selfish want. After all, who doesn't like getting gifts? Even those that don't believe or care for Jesus or His teachings love the receipt of gifts. Many of the more cheerful sort will speak of the goodwill and love spread about this time of year. The peace-on-earth tidings are passed on to even those you don't like or barely tolerate the rest of the year. Many will pass out gifts and goodies to irritating neighbors, co-workers, and estranged family members. Often is told the tale of the WW2 miracle in which allied and German forces ceased fire for twenty-four hours to celebrate Christmas. After all; its' not very Christian to kill a man on Christmas day!

Can we at some point concentrate our efforts on the guest of honor at this world-wide party, as they did? I guess the question would then be; not What Would Jesus Do? Rather, WWJ Want?

What WOULD Jesus Want???

The Prince of Peace, the Lamb of God, Saviour of the Lost, and Friend to the friendless.

Knowing that He expounded the virtues of peace, love, humility, and justice. (Matthew 5:1-3)

Knowing that He promised comfort to the comfortless, and that He would return. (John 14:3)

It is apparent then, that Jesus would want for people to express and honour the virtues He expressed.(John 13:34-35)

Christmas is certainly miraculous in that during this time of year the light of love seems to shine through and upon everyone. That I am sure is what Jesus would want for His birthday; for humans to be kinder to each other. We certainly will for one day, and then immediately after after that by January 1st, its back to normal. The focus by New Year's Day is all about self again, as we resolve to lose weight, exercise more, stop smoking, and acquire more of this or that. I just wish that the spirit of Christmas would reign not only in these final days of the year but into, and all the coming year long!!!
