More than 5 great self-help books everyone sould read.

Self help is the best help; God helps those who help themselves, etc. these are familiar phrases that most people heard growing up. These days there are a number of self help books available in the market. Self help books give you insights and knowledge you seek. You can read at your pace, and if you don’t like what you read, you can simply put it away till next time. They really give you value for money, in fact I would go further to say, what they give you far outweighs what you paid for them. The knowledge the authors share with you is truly priceless! I am listing some books or rather the authors that I think everyone should read here. I would like to also add that each person may get something different from the same book. All books I recommend talk about the power of the mind and the importance of positive thinking in order to heal and make changes in your life, and all of these I have in my personal library.

1) You can heal your life- Louise Hay.

This is an amazing book written by Louise Hay. It gives you fabulous information and insights on how you have created your life so far and how you can heal your life, your relationships, your prosperity etc. She first wrote and published a booklet titled- heal your body. This booklet outlines the thought patterns that create various illnesses or diseases in the body and also the healing thoughts that one must now think in order for the illness of disease to be healed. You can heal your life is a much more comprehensive book.

2) The power of intention - Dr. Wayne Dyer

In this book, Dr. Wayne Dyer talks about the role that “intention” plays in our lives. Many of us want to change our lives, we talk about it, we may set goals but we do not get very far unless we use what he calls the power of intention. He has described intention a force that exists in the universe as an invisible field of energy and how to activate this force to help you co-create your world your way. He has written many other books I found useful; among them are: Living in inspiration, Manifest your destiny and Getting in the gap.

3) Creative visualization - Shakti Gawain

In this book, Shakti describes how to manifest things that you are wishing for in your life. It is a step by step guide to use visualization as a technique to help you make the changes you have wished for.

4) The Answer - John Assaraf and Murray Smith

Both these authors offer the reader a guide to achieving financial freedom and living an extraordinary life. The book gives fantastic insights on how new thoughts create new pathways in the brain. How new ideals must first be accepted by the brain before you can successfully act on them. They also give you wonderful strategies on business plans and increasing your income levels. The book teaches you how to use the law of attraction to create the business of your choice and how to develop the mindset of a millionaire.

5) The monk who sold his Ferrari - Robin Sharma

This is a very well-known book that presents spiritual insights in the form of a story or a fable. It is one of the best sellers in the market, and that speaks for itself. It is in this book I first read the importance of “empty your cup” and also the adage- when the student is ready, the teacher appears!

6) Feel the fear and do it anyway: Susan Jeffers

In this book, Susan Jeffers describes how most of us lack the confidence we need to in order do do things we always dreamed of doing. How fear puts obstacles in our way. She has aptly titled her book- feel the fear and do it anyway!

7) Ageless Body Timeless mind: Deepak Chopra

Doesn’t everyone crave eternal youth? Most people fear old age as there seems to be nothing to stop age advancing and the damage caused to our bodies by old age.. In this book Deepak Chopra enlightens you to the fact that ageing is more of a choice. He explains how our attitudes towards ourselves can change the way we age.

8) The Secret: Rhonda Byrne

This book shot to fame overnight and so did the DVD. This book also talks of the power of creative visualization.

9) The power of the Subconscious mind- Dr. Joseph Murphy

As the title suggests, this books helps you unleash the power of your subconscious mind to help you acheive the results you desire.

10) Healing Mantras- Thomas Ashley-Farrand

In this book, the author describes and teaches you how to use the power of sound and sanskrit mantras for personal power, creativity and healing. The mantras are given in the book, most of them are quite easy to learn and say. He has also given easy phonetic spellings so you can get the pronounciation right.

I don't think self-help books are terribly useful. Most are bland and patronising.

Hi, Thanks for stopping by. and of course you are entitled to your opinion; but many people I know have gained a great deal of knowledge, tips and self improvement techniques from them. I personally have gained a lot- especially from Louise Hay, dr Wayne dyer and many others.

Also each writer has his/her own style of writing that may not appeal to all palates, but each has their own niche audience.

My first introduction to a greater life was through the book "Embraced by the Light" by Betty Eadie. After that I read "Real Magic" by Wayne Dyer.

I've been hooked ever since, and the most remarkable things have happened to me since getting into the helpful concepts of these authors and speakers.

They are all so bold and wonderful. "Feel the Fear and do it Anyway." That's how I live life now. I couldn't do it any other way anymore.

Thanks for a great hub.

I loved The Answer. A great follow up book after I read The Secret and felt like I had missed what the secret was. The Answer really gave it up. Power of Intention was also fantastic. Thanks for sharing, I am sure I will read some of the other titles on the list.

Interesting list! Perhaps Feeling Good by David Burns is on a more mundane level, but it is my number one suggestion.
