6 Weeks Pregnant
86Now you’re 6 weeks pregnant, you may be wondering what to expect or may even be unsure about what’s to come as your pregnancy progresses. Hopefully, you’re aware that you’re pregnant and can now begin planning for the months ahead, the birth of your baby and the changes that his or her impending birth will bring.
6 Weeks Pregnant
At the 6 weeks pregnant stage, perhaps you’ve begun to experience some nausea or you’re feeling fatigued. Maybe you’re simply feeling great – many women do. You may also be gaining a little weight – don’t panic, its normal! It’s extremely unlikely that you’ll have gained enough weight to require maternity wear though you may be feeling a little bigger around your stomach area.
Many women feel little or no difference regarding weight gain in the early weeks but some feel a 'thickening' around the waist area quite early. Whether you have detected a difference or not, the main factor is that you know you're 6 weeks pregnant and that it's a given that you'll gain weight - sooner or later.
6 Weeks Pregnant
Psychologically you could be feeling a little emotional – pregnancy is both wonderful and scary at the same time. Plus, your oestrogen and progesterone levels will be up and down which can affect your moods.
You may also have developed a craving for foods you wouldn’t normally eat. Alternatively, you may find that you’re ‘off’ certain foods. Equally you may have noticed that there have been some changes to your sense of smell and/or taste in general.
In short, at 6 weeks pregnant … you should be starting to ‘feel’ pregnant!
Fetal Development
6 Weeks Gestation
At your 6 weeks pregnant stage, your baby will be upwards of a quarter of an inch in length. Not very big but there are significant signs of life in development. He will have begun to develop his central nervous system and he will have a head and body. On his face, his features will be developing, such as his mouth, eyes and ears.
He will have little buds that will go on to become his arms and legs and his brain has developed to a stage whereby the activity may be picked up on an EEG machine. The beginning of his circulatory and digestive system will have become apparent and his heart beat can, with luck, be heard on an ultra-sound machine. Further, his lungs, liver and kidneys will start to develop.
6 Weeks pregnant - In General
Between the changes to your baby and the changes that you are experiencing as a result of your pregnancy, the 6 weeks pregnant stage is a remarkably busy one. It’s quite an important period for many as this is when many women discover that they’re pregnant – and for those that already know, they may by now beginning to really ‘feel’ pregnant.
