Rush To Judgment
76The Current Debate
In recent weeks, much debate took place over the airwaves about conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh attempted purchase of the St. Louis Rams. Limbaugh was reportedly part of a partnership group aimed at purchasing the Rams in order to keep the team in St. Louis. Limbaugh is a known NFL fan.
Al Sharpton and the Reverend Jesse Jackson objected to Rush's plans because of past statements made by Rush Limbaugh about African American athletes. Specifically, Rush Limbaugh made statements comparing NFL games and its players to the Crips and Bloods gangs and statements Limbaugh made regarding Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb claiming that he was overrated and was only rated highly because the media and the NFL wanted an African American quarterback to excel. He was fired from ESPN for the statements.
Rush Limbaugh will not get to purchase a part of the St. Louis Rams. The Partnership group dropped him because of the controversy surrounding him. Liberals rejoiced. Limbaugh claims he is a victim and is thinking about taking legal action.
The Aftermath For Conservatives
The Republican Party and specifically conservatives are called many things in the media and by the left. One thing they have never been thought of is weak. Whether you like it or not, the conservative movement is a powerful force in America that is not going away any time soon.
Yet, since the election of President Obama conservatives have claimed that they have become victims in this "new America." They cried when a Latina was named to the Supreme Court because she had the audacity to claim that a minority could be smarter than a white male. They cry that they are the victims of racism or a socialist plot to take away country. They cry and cry and cry. Simply, they sound like liberals.
Limbaugh is not a victim of racial discrimination. There is no socialist plot to destroy conservatism in America. Limbaugh is a victim of his , own actions. When you strive to be controversial, whether it is for ratings for because they are your personal beliefs, the controversy doesn't take a pass when you want to buy a football team.

The Aftermath For Liberals
Liberals rejoiced when Rush Limbaugh was denied the opportunity to buy the St. Louis Rams. Not on television, but they rejoiced. They had taken down the private undertakings of a man they hate. They made his personal dealings the subject of national debate. They did it for sport. They did it for spite. Simply, they acted like conservatives.
I dislike Rush Limbaugh. I don't like his politics and I don't like the way he divides Americans. I think he is a racist in tone if not in personal beliefs. I don't like that he cheers when America loses because he does not like the President. I really hate the fact he is so popular.
But Limbaugh should have been given the opportunity to buy the St. Louis Rams. If the NFL owners denied him that is one thing. But he wasn't given the chance because Liberals hate him and that is wrong. Liberals should have been ashamed by the way they brought a private matter into the public forum for sport and spite. They were ashamed when conservatives did this to Bill Clinton. Taking Rush Limbaugh down helped nobody. It gave nobody a job. It cured no disease. It educated no child. Liberals used to devote their time and talents to these talks but now are directing them towards individuals in the conservative movement because after eight years of George Bush taking out liberals they feel revenge is in order. But today's problems are too big to waste time on the private dealings of conservative leaders. Liberals should not be part of a distraction of the bigger problems that face America.
Now they angered a man who has a national audience. They have turned the topic of discussion from health care and war to footballs teams and Rush Limbaugh. Yet another non-issue dominates the news, a issue that liberals cannot win on. And they forgot the old rule of liberals: when you spend time taking down others, you leave no time uplifting those in need.

Actually, I watch Fox as much as CNN. I saw the apology on CNN from Rick Sanchez, he was misqoated once. The statements about McNabb and the Crips and Bloods I saw myself when Rush was on ESPN. I did tell the whole story.
Fergie and Rap Music has problems with language, not racism. I don't think Rush is racist like the Klan is, I think he uses racist language for ratings. But my personal opinion is not what is important here, what is important is that Rush should have been allowed to go through the process and wasn't because Liberals attacked out of spite. As a liberal, I think the Liberals got this one wrong.
Thanks for the comment
My apology, I did not get that from your hub that though the liberals over did this one. I agree with you. But actually I really don't care one way or the other. Rush probably would have been good for the Rams.
Keep on hubbing
Good or not, it was a private matter and that was the point of my hub. Liberals have to be consistent whether they like it or not.
Thanks for the comment.
You go Big Daddy. You earned your name with this hub. I respect your points I will consider myself chastized. But, I'm not sorry. We need to speak out more on EVERYTHING! We have one lone Congressmen down in Florida with the backbone to speak up for us. We have been too nice and too quite too Long!
Agreed that Democrats have been too weak, but we need to stick to issues that effect Americans, not just one American. The guy from Florida was discussing policy, and it was not a personal attack. Leave the politics of personal destruction alone, and argue issues and policy. When Dems do that, they win.
Not at all fond of Rush Limbaugh myself, and his remarks about McNabb did nothing to endear me to the man. I've lived all my life in the Delaware Valley (on the side of the river where, in fact, most of the Eagles' players reside), and if there's a color associated with Donovan McNabb in my mind, that color is green.
Hell, I even support Brian Westbrook, and he graduated from Villanova.
But Limbaugh's investment in an NFL franchise (and his limited participation in the team's operations as a part-owner) seem to me a matter of trivial importance. There have certainly been overtly and explicitly bigoted owners in the NFL's past (look into the history of George Preston Marshall, who was so opposed to hiring black players that the running joke was that the Redskins' colors were "Burgundy, Gold, and Caucasian") and doubtless there are plenty of people with greater or lesser ownership shares in dozens of professional sports franchises who are far more objectionable in their prejudices - racial, religious, and otherwise - than is Limbaugh.
That the NFL acted to block Limbaugh's ownership position in the Rams is hypocritical in the extreme, but despite the fact that this issue is truly a tempest in teapot, it's good that we should be thinking and talking about it in what's supposed to be "post-racial America."
It's the tender spots on our metaphorical body politic that really need to be probed to diagnose the pathologies.
I agree it is an issue of trivial importance, and it was a private matter. If the NFL rejects him, fine, they have that right. But for Liberals, media and others to take him down seemed to far for my taste. Yes, opinions have consequences on the national scene, but this was not a national issue. It was a private matter. And taking him down helps no one. It educates no child. It saves no jobs. Liberals dropped the ball on this one and if I am going to rant and rave about when conservatives get it wrong, I have to equally able to take on my own side too.
Thanks for the comment.
Was Rush too conservative for the NFL and its owners, or not conservative enough? NFL owners are typically business folks that do things by the book.
Not Rush's way, unless it is his own book.
I think he was too controversial and they didn't want the headache. I think they would have approved him but never got the chance.
Thanks for the comment.
The feeding frenzy was ugly wasn't it? Not nearly as bad as when he turned up with a drug problem though. No matter what your views are, if you dance in the blood of others your a sick individual! Nice work bg!

You missed the part of CNN and other news outlets quoting false statements about Limbaugh, and CNN apologizing about. I know you news you watch did not cover it, but there is more to this story. If you are going to get into the action, at least cover the whole story, please.
