Amusement Theme Parks in Singapore

Here in Singapore, despite its grandeur in arts and culture and its numerous family friendly attraction spots, it lacks a crucial component for tourists and locals alike to have a fun-filled day of adventure and recreation. Yes, the tiny island, unfortunately, does not have a bountiful number of amusement parks.

In the eastern part of Singapore, along a stretch of road that eventually leads to Changi Beach, lies Downtown East. Deemed as a “leisure and lifestyle destination”, Downtown East would be an excellent attraction for families with younger kids below the age of twelve. This, of course, does not mean that the adults in the family will have a dreadful day at a kid’s theme park. Downtown East has elements of surprise that will appeal to all the masses.

Downtown East is separated into several areas encompassed within a considerable amount of land space. One of the areas is Wild Wild Wet, a water-themed park that promises everyone a “splashin’ good time”. With various rides and boasting huge slides with plenty of curves, Wild Wild Wet will indeed provide you a whole day’s worth of family fun goodness. Though it appeals more to the younger crowd with a complicated maze of a water playground and kiddy rides spread throughout the area, there are Jacuzzi areas and a super flume ride that will even make the adults go, “Let’s do it again!”

Another area in Downtown East is the Escape Theme Park. Appealing to all ages, Escape Theme Park prides itself on being the total family experience. There are plenty of rides and even a central pavilion packed full with games that rewards you with the classic and memorable mid-sized stuffed toy. Enclosed within the theme park, are two varying difficulties of Go-Karts (one for the younger crowd and a faster version with more twists aptly named Daytona Go-Kart), a mild-mannered roller coaster for everyone in the family, a haunted house that will definitely offer a few shocks, and a Viking ride, amongst others. The theme park provides enough much-needed recreational activity for a whole weekend.

Having exhausted the amusement park in the eastern side of Singapore, we shall now travel to the west and its famous Snow City. Located within the premises of the Singapore Science Centre, Snow City offers locals the opportunity to experience snow in this tropical city. The building houses over ten tons of snow at any time and located inside the building is a gigantic three storey high snow slope. Visitors can also participate in skiing and snowboarding lessons for free and the chance to have a snowball fight with family members or friends makes this place a treat.

For the hardcore amusement park fan who is still not impressed with the parks that Singapore has to over, fret not. Coming soon, in early 2010, theme park giants, Universal Studios will open its doors to tourists and locals alike in Singapore. Costing over one billion US dollars, the theme park will be located on Sentosa Island, the resort island off Singapore’s southern coast. With over five separate themed lands like Hollywood Boulevard and Lost World (based on the Jurassic Park franchise), visitors will be left spoiled for choice. A suspended, steel roller-coaster is also in the works, something that will definitely please the hardcore roller-coaster local fans that have long desired a proper roller-coaster ride in the city state. Universal Studios Singapore is set to be one of the top attraction draws for tourists and locals for the years to come when it opens in 2010.
