Back Again for Another "30 Hubs in 30 Days Hub Challenge

Updated on October 2, 2009

Well, here I am, back again--doing another Hub Challenge, after a little break from the last one.

It is motivating to have a specific goal, a specific target, and a specific deadline.

That's one thing I miss, working from home.  All the demands on my time are self-imposed, so I am still in the process of learning how to be self-motivated and self-directed to make good use of my time.

For the first two or three months of self-employment, being a Type A overachiever person, I scheduled more tasks than one person could possibly perform in a week, for one day.  I had long, long "list of things to do" yellow-ruled legal paper lists, every day.  I'd start off good in the morning then fizzle out by the afternoon.  I got lazy in the afternoons.  I started reading books, all the books I love to read, straight through til evening and sometimes until late into the night.

Then, especially after a reading orgy that kept me up until 2 or 3 in the morning, I started getting up later, and later, and later...

It got to be so I wasn't making much headway with my to-do lists.  I experienced, for the very first time, ever, the delicious freedom of being at home, all day, alone, with no specific tasks imposed on me by the outside world or other people:  no noise, no one interrupting me every five minutes, no personal griefs from conflicting office personalities to deal with, no office phone ringing off the hook just when the computer crashed with the compiled data for the year-end financial reports; and after I calmed down with my Type A lists, I revelled in it.

I revelled in it a little too much.  I really got LAZY!

Well, I had to do something about that.  It seems I went from one extreme to the other.  I had to find some middle ground here, and to try to get on a more regular schedule.

With some misgivings, being so new to Hub Pages, I decided to take the "30 Hubs in 30 Days" hub challenge.

It worked, it really helped to have a specific task to do other than my usual on-line projects, which take about 2 to 3 hours in the morning, then I'm done for the day.  My days got organized better and I developed a more even pace.  I used my time at home more constructively, and felt good, felt really satisfied, at the results.

And I met the first challenge.  I was pleased to have completed the challenge and succeeded with i!.  It was so good to have an ongoing project to help me stay organized.

It certainly improved my HubScore and the traffic to my Hubs.

So, having experienced such good results the first time, and finding that I've relaxed just a little bit too much after completing the challenge, I'm up for it again.

Come join this, anyone sitting on the fence right now.  You won't be sorry.  It's not that huge of a commitment, and it keeps you writing, it keeps you publishing, and it keeps you out there in the world.

One thing I especially LIKE about this challenge--there aren't any bad consequences if you don't succeed in writing the whole 30.  There are only good consequences for trying.  You still will write and publish more than if you didn't take the challenge, and that's a good thing.
