Websites for Kids
Websites for Kids

In my endless search for cool, safe, fun websites for kids, I have recently found a few winners. I love to find creatively designed sites that aren't trying to sell my kids (or me) anything . They should (in my opinion) have a use beyond the run of the mill games that are similar to every other kids site on the web and possibly (I know I'm asking a lot) be both entertaining and educational.

I was curious if there was a kid safe equivelent to Facebook, YouTube and the other favorite web 2.0 sites. Of course there is. Silly of me to think that no one else had that idea!

So, if your kids have grown bored with the usual game sites like NickJr., Disney.com, Webkinz and ClubPenguin, they might really enjoy these social networking, video and game sites developed in a web 2.0 style.

Best Web 2.0 Sites for Kids

KidThing is a little different than the rest of the sites on this list. They offer a free download that allows your children to play fun, educatuonal games and offers fun interactive opportunites.

Totlol is YouTube powered and community moderated video sharing. There are tons of fun original videos to browse that will entertain toddlers and preschoolers as well as older children. They can even upload their own videos to share. Plenty of classic kids videos can be viewed there as well, so go check out some of your old favorites!

Famster is a family networking site which will allow your kids to keep in touch with family and friends in a safe protected environment.

Imbee Think of this as a safe Facebook for kids 8-14 years -old. Use the parental controls and the privacy wall to protect your childs privacy so their personal blog, videos and photos cannot be viewed by outsiders or those not approved.

Editor’s note: It is no secret that schools have technology today that was not available 50, 20 or even five years ago. Educational tools students use in the classroom can be completely foreign to their parents. As part of an education series, the Papillion Times is highlighting various technology-based tools teachers in the Papillion-La Vista School District are using to teach kids.
