Capitalism Marries Socialism: Burden of a Working Man

Updated on September 19, 2019

Winston Churchill said "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries."

It seems to me that this vice of capitalism and virtue of socialism are two very prevalent issues faced by the working class in our economic system. With the cloud of government regulations hanging over our head, we can no longer as working class citizens, reap the benefits of capitalism. Since we are the backbone of our capitalistic self, socialism not only offers little help, but aids in our burden.

Income Tax

"When there is an income tax, the just man will pay more and the unjust less on the same amount of income." Plato.

"The income tax is a twentieth-century socialist experiment that has failed. Before the income tax was imposed on us just 80 years ago, government had no claim to our income. Only sales, excise, and tariff taxes were allowed." Alan Keyes, political activist and doctoral graduate of Harvard University

"The income tax created more criminals than any other single act of government." Barry Goldwater, 5 term senator from Arizona and 1964 Republican nominee for President

The income tax burdens the working class. For example, a factory worker, intent on bettering his place financially, opts to work overtime. Unaware that his percentage of Income tax would greatly increase, making it not nearly as rewarding, he vows to use his future, free time with his family. In a capitalistic marketplace he should benefit from excess work, not be penalized. He makes less money, and as a result, has less to spend. As most know, spending is what stimulates the economy. Therefore, income tax hinders capitalism.

Now, those who don't work are not affected by these same taxes. Here, socialism abounds. Take from those who will and give to those who won't. The inherent virtue of socialism forces those who work to share in the misery.

Health Care

Once again, medicaid is socialism enabling the non working class, and laughing at that poor factory worker, while he pays an insurmountable debt to his local hospital. He may never be able to pay and may be forced to sacrifice spending time with his family to work at an overtaxed wage, eat less, not pay his electric bill, or lose his home. All the while, those who don't work use the emergency room as a doctor's office visit. No worries, those taxes paid by the overworked man in the factory will pay for the added expense.

HUD

Capitalism says "If you work hard, you can have a nice home, if you work even harder you can have a real big one." The evil spouse, socialism says" Everyone should have the same size home, regardless" Meanwhile, in the midst of this marital dispute, the factory worker has just lost his home. His neighbors in their "little pink houses for you and me" John Cougar Mellancamp, is watching Opra and eating t-bones, not worrying about their payment, because Socialism's illegitmate son, HUD has got it covered.

Welfare

"Welfare's purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence." Ronald Reagan.

Welfare is a means to an end, a socialistic idea meant to evolve those under its wing to capitalism. As Regan said it succeeds when it is no longer needed. It is abused in our country and our legislative body enables this abuse.

I covered this problem in a previous hub titled Federal Budget, see link below

We must have a happy marriage between socialism and capitalism, or a divorce is imminent. The working Americans can no longer bear the burden of this contradictory relationship. Capitalism lead the way for years and must be at the forefront in order for this country to thrive. It is what makes us great.
