A Marvelous Marriage: Chocolate & Banana
Not only do they taste great when combined, but both bananas and dark chocolate also contain a lot of health benefits...particularly for women.
So, when you need an indulgence, consider making one of these great treats to enjoy.
You can, of course, use any kind of chocolate, but for a healthier option, choose a dark chocolate that is labeled at least 70% Dark Chocolate.
The Easiest, Yummiest Recipe Ever:
Okay, here is what you need:
Banana(s), Chocolate, Wooden Sticks, Wax Paper, Microwave or Stove, & a Freezer
This is what you need to do:
Peel the banana(s) and cut in half horizontally. Stick the wooden stick into each banana half vertically (so it resembles a Popsicle). Let bananas set in freezer for about two hours, until the sticks are firmly set in the bananas.
Melt the chocolate, either in the microwave or in a pan on the stove. You want the melted chocolate to have a shiny, sheeny, creamy appearance.
Dip the bananas into the melted chocolate, keeping your fingers clean by holding onto the wooden stick. Lay the chocolate covered bananas on the wax paper. Transfer to the freezer until they are set firm (again, about two hours).
Then, enjoy! If you want to save some for later, simply wrap in plastic once the chocolate is set and store in freezer until you are ready to consume.
TIP: Let the frozen chocolate covered bananas sit at room temperature for five to ten minutes before eating to reduce the risk of hurting a tooth!
Choosing the Best Chocolate
Here are some tips I got from a wonderful resource called sparkspeople.com. To read the full article, click here.
Refer to the following cheat sheet before your next trip to the chocolate shop:
Yummy Add-Ons to Your Chocolate Covered Bananas!
- Um...did someone say banana and chocolate and peanut butter? Simply add some peanut butter to the chocolate and melt together before dipping the bananas. Yummy!
- For an extra special treat, coat the chocolate covered bananas in crushed nuts, mini M&M's, granola, or crushed Oreo cookies. Simply roll the bananas in the coating of your choice after you dip them in the chocolate, then freeze.
- Instead of chocolate (or in addition to), try covering the bananas in butterscotch. You can buy butterscotch chips, which are similar to chocolate chips, and melt them just like chocolate. It would be yummy to combine these with chocolate too.
- Did someone say white chocolate?

Yeah, there are definitely other options so you don't have to freeze them, but I wanted to keep this simple...plus, some of them include ingredients that up the calories, and I wanted to keep it as healthy of a treat as possible. Funny, it is morning and I'm craving both pizza and chocolate! Ack.
yum, that sounds delicious.
Mmm-mmm-mmm! Bananas and chocolate go together like apples and peanut butter! And that's a high compliment!
I love Bananas AND chocolate and will definitely be trying this recipe.....If I was "good" cook i would have said "doing this" but I will see how it goes.....It seems pretty simple..
There are more complicated recipes for this out there, but this one is so easy--it's the freezer part that simplifies it. Let me know how it goes.
And apples and peanut butter are great together--yum!
Both are my favorite ingredients and when you add them both it is pure heaven. Thanks :)
Yayyy.. I made it. with a little help... OK...a lot of help:O... I used all the things that should be "left on the shelf":( but was still very tasty and easy.. Next time I will have to try the "good for your health" ingredients" just to see the difference in taste, and for a healthier option...
I wish i could have uploaded a pic here for you to see..
Thanks;)
It would be so cool to see your pic! I'm glad you liked it. Hey, we all have those "I should have left it on the shelf" times!

You've gotten my mouth watering at 10am!
Your advice about freezing the dipped bananas makes sense. There's something about melting that requires a completely different "tempering" process to get it to set at room temperature again. But freezing and a short thaw will give you the same chocolatey crunchy effect. ;-)
Or, I guess you can use paraffin (food grade wax) to make it harden, like in Lyricallor's recipe:

I wonder if that's what they use in Magic Shell?
