When you are hanging out with a group of friends, it is fun to play drinking games. There are a lot of different drinking games, and they are all pretty fun.

These games range from being loud to messy to vulgar, or a combination of any of these. Make sure you are in an appropriate venue for each of the games because you don’t want to get kicked out of a bar or restaurant. Trust me, I know.

As well, drinking games tend to involve alcohol, so remember to drink safely and responsibly.

The thing about these games to remember is that they get harder to play the more you drink, but they are also more fun. There are a ton of games you can play, but these are some of my favorites.

If you have some great ones, share them in the comments box at the bottom of the page.

Drinking Games with Movies & TV Shows

This is a pretty easy one to play, but can be a lot of fun. Basically, choose some keywords or sayings for whatever you are watching, and whenever they are said everyone drinks. Here is an example:

Wayne’s World:

  • “Schwing!” (drink)
  • “Excellent!” (drink)
  • "Party on, Wayne." and "Party on, Garth."
  • "We're not worthy!"

You can make your own list as long as you want. If anyone forgets to drink, you can make them drink double. A lot of popular shows to play drinking games with are Xena, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Family Guy. Apparently, Bush’s State of the Union addresses are pretty are pretty popular for these games too.

Never Have I Ever

For this game, you sit around with drinks ready. One person says something they have “never” done. If you have done it, you take a drink. If you haven’t done it, you are safe. This game tends to focus on sex as the main topic. Example:

“Never have I ever gone skinny dipping.” --Everyone who has gone skinny dipping drinks.

“Never have I ever made out with a teacher.” --Everyone who has made out with a teacher drinks.

“Never have I ever had sex in public.” --Now, everyone who has had sex in public drinks.

It is a fun game, but can get pretty raunchy. You might also find out some crazy stuff about your friends.

The F@#k Game

Well, I don’t want anyone to get into trouble, so we are going to call this the Tuck Game. This game can get really loud, so make sure you are somewhere where it is okay to play it.

Everyone sits in a circle around the table. All of the players pick a name, like Fairy Tuck or Polish Tuck or Blonde Tuck or Butt Tuck. Now, everyone has to clap their hands in a rhythm: twice together, twice on the table, twice together, twice on the table, and so on. It starts with one person chanting with their name, “Fairy Tuck, what the tuck, how about a Polish Tuck.” Then, Polish Tuck, without missing a beat, says: “Polish Tuck, what the tuck, how about a Butt Tuck.” Get the idea? You don’t have to go in any sort of order, but you can’t name the person who just named you.

You have to say the right thing on the right hand movement:

“Fairy Tuck” (clap hands together twice)

“What the tuck” (clap hands on table twice)

“How about a” (clap hands together twice)

“Polish Tuck” (clap hands on table twice)

There can’t be a lull as the next person picks up the chant, or they have to drink. You also have to remember everyone’s nicknames, or you will have to drink. The game gets faster and louder the longer you play. It also gets really funny.

Highest Card Wins

There are a lot of drinking card games, but this one is so easy—which makes it perfect when you just want to sit around and drink without thinking. One of my old roommates always carried a deck of cards in her purse, just in case.

Basically, you deal out all of the cards to everyone playing. The players keep their cards face down in a pile. Then, everyone turns a card over at the same time. Whoever has the highest (or lowest—decide before you start) card drinks. Or, you can make it so that everyone but the winner drinks. Simple, but effective.

Go Fish

Oh yes, the innocent game gets a makeover. You play it like you usually would, but if ask someone for a card they don’t have, you get to drink. If you are told “Go Fish” and you get the card you wanted out of the pile, the other person has to drink. If you ask someone for a card, and they do have it, they have to drink.

You can make this more complicated by making the rules so the drinkers have to take as many drinks as the number on the card, or even double the number.

Anything Goes

Honestly, you can make just about anything into a drinking game. I once played a scrabble/drinking/strip game. If you can find an excuse to drink during the game, just lay out the rules and you are ready to go.

But please: drink responsibly and legally. Remember your limits. And, never drink and drive.

I love this - would not have thought of drinking games, but right on! Takes me back a few years. :-)

I'm not into drinking games. I just like to drink and relax. I tend to be a lush when I drink, so playing games wouldn't last long with me.

A friend of mine is obsessed beer pong, but I've never played, and really don't know the rules.

I don't really like beer pong.

Actually, I don't play drinking games anymore. Just memories.
