What You'll Need:

One 4 pound Boston Butt or Pork Shoulder Roast (trimmed)

1/2 Cup of Cider Vinegar

1 Small Onion, finely chopped (red, yellow, or white)

2 Tablespoons of Catsup

1 Tablespoon of Splenda or Sugar

1 Teaspoon of Paprika

1 Teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce

1 Teaspoon of Tabasco sauce

1/2 Teaspoon of Liquid Smoke

1/2 Teaspoon of Black Pepper (preferably freshly ground)

1/4 Teaspoon of Ground Mustrard

Preparation Instructions

Place all ingredients except for the pork roast into you slow cooker and mix well. Place the pork roast in the seasoning. Cover and cook on low for 8 - 10 hours.

Just before serving, remove the roast from the crock pot and shred meat with a fork. It will pull apart quite easily after coking for that length of time in a slow cooker. Skim the fat from the cooking liquid. Return shredded meat to the crock pot and stir to coat thoroughly with cooking liquid.

Serve with a slotted spoon, either as a stand alone entrée or filling for delicious pulled pork sandwiches.

If you go the sandwich route, consider using large, seeded hamburger buns or thick slices of Texas Toast.

Side Dish Recommendations

Whether you serve this tasty pulled pork barbecue recipe by itself or on a sandwich, traditional barbecue side dishes are the perfect accompaniment. Try serving with tasty baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, corn on the cob, and your favorite cold salad.

Alternatives:

Prefer barbecue beef? This recipe is equally delicious with beef. Use a rump or round roast in the same sauce and the results will be terrific?

Don't like vinegar based barbecue sauce? This cooking technique will work with any barbecue sauce. If you'd rather use your own barbecue sauce recipe, or even a bottle of sauce, simply put in your slow cooker in approximately the same quantity, add your meat, and cook.
