Explore The Kimberley
Exploring the Kimberley
Have you been longing to set off and explore The Kimberley region at the top of Australia ?Do you want to lose yourself in nature - the you that is working for a boss you don't like maybe and need to find the you that is full of adventure !
The Kimberley is the ideal place to lose yourself while enjoying the natural resources and beauty of the top of Western Australia
We loved our time in the Kimberley and loved exploring the many waterfalls and waterholes on offer as well as seeing the varied wildlife there on boat trips as well as on land..
The Kimberley is located in the northern part of Western Australia, extending from Broome in the west to Kununurra and Lake Argyle in the east, from the sea to a bit south of the main Great Northern Highway
It is a large area, slightly larger than Japan and much larger than United Kingdom, New Zealand, or the Australian state of Victoria. So we won't see all of it in one go!
It is bordered by the Indian Ocean, the Timor Sea, the Great Sandy Desert, and the Northern Territory!
The Kimberley has only three towns with a population of more than 2,000 (Broome, Derby and Kununurra), and the total population is only around 25,000.
We are waiting for the wet season to finish as during the wet season (November through April), unsealed roads are often impassable, even for 4-wheel-drive vehicles, and sealed roads may be cut off by flood waters for a few hours to a few days. Many attractions and national parks are closed during the wet season.
As it may be a long way between service stations, we need to refuel whenever we can, check ahead to make sure fuel is available where we are going, and perhaps even carry extra fuel. We need to carry spare water, spare parts for our vehicle etc

We really enjoyed the drive along Gibb Road which was originally constructed in the late 1800's & Is over 660 kilometres.
Today "The Gibb" offers one of the last true outback drive adventures and is one of the true outback iconic drives so we will be taking plenty of photo's as we do this trip!
It has spectacular scenery with many gorges, waterfalls and rivers along its length including Windjana Gorge/Tunnel Creek, and the towering cliff faces of the Cockburn Ranges. Allow yourself time to explore at leisure, & enjoy hiking and a refreshing swim in cool pools beneath plunging waterfalls, be crocodile aware and only swim where it is safe to do so.Check for signs!
