Funerals of the elite, rich and famous people, celebrities, presidents, kings and queens, princes and princesses, popes, martyrs and saints-to-be, and other influential icons are being honored special funerals before they rest in peace.

After Michael Jackson's shocking death, more than a million people wished for free tickets just to attend his memorial tribute. The world will never forget his life, and even for sure his death.

The King of Pop is just among the few people whose funeral was attended and watched by millions of people around the world. The list below also left famous funerals in history:

Princess Diana

The death of the Princess of Wales drew a sad face in the world. Various conspiracies and mysteries still remain about her death on August 31, 1997 which overshadowed the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta before hers.

Her funeral on September 6, 1997 at Westminster Abbey was gathered by an almost 3 million mourners and viewers in London while more than a million of bouquets of flowers were left at her home in Kensington Palace. Over a million people have lined up the four mile route from Kensington Palace to Westminster Abbey.

Famous country leaders like US President (at that time) Bill Clinton and wife, Hillary Clinton, French President Jacques Chirac and wife Bernadette and other celebs like Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti, George Michael, Elton John and others attended the ceremony.

Princess Diana was buried on the Althorp estate on an island in the middle of a lake. On her casket, she wears a black Catherine Walker dress and is holding a rosary in her hands

Frank Sinatra

Music legend Frank Sinatra died from heart attack on May 14, 1998. His funeral was held in front of 400 mourners. After the tribute, his casket was loaded on a private jet amidst the media helicopters, many reporters and cameras across the street.

Sinatra was buried next to his parents and best friend, Jilly Rizzo at Desert Memorial Park.


Elvis Presley

Due to the thousand fans that gathered in Memphis after the day Elvis died, President Carter ordered 300 troops to control the area On August 17, 1977 a public viewing of Elvis in casket was held in Graceland. Over 30,000 fans were there.

Elvis’s funeral held on the 18th was a big event attended by stars like his "Viva Las Vegas" co-star Ann-Margret, James Brown, and actor George Hamilton. J.D. Sumner and the Stamps, the Statesmen, and Kathy Westmoreland did some Elvis’s hymns.

Pope John Paul II

Pope John Paul II died on April 2, 2005. His funeral on April 8 brought the largest gathering of heads of state in history—4 kings, 5 queens, at least 70 presidents and prime ministers, more than 14 leaders of other religions plus the faithful. An estimated of more than 4 million mourners gathered in Rome while billions watched on TV live and replay version.

In the election of a new pope, it is a customary for the Camerlengo to call out the pope's Christian name three times, to ensure he has truly died.

Pope John Paul II was buried at 2:30PM Vatican time in the underground crypt according to his wishes. It is in the cemetery underneath the Basilica where Saint Peter is believed to be buried.


Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe died at 36 on August 5, 1962. Her death was listed a probable suicide Her death is still a mystery and one of the most debated conspiracy theories up to this time.

Her funeral took place on August 8, at the Westwood Memorial Park Chapel in Westwood, California. Her casket was known at that time as the “Cadillac of caskets” because of its expensive materials used and its fabulous design. She was interred in a pink marble crypt at the Corridor of Memories.

John Lennon

John Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980. 30,000 people gathered in Liverpool while over 100,000 were on New York’s Central Park close to the scene of shooting. Millions of people worldwide participated to his wife, Ono’s request to have 10 minutes of silence in remembering John Lennon.

Lennon was cremated on December 10, 1980, at the Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York, and his ashes were given to Ono.
