Can Candy Clear Acne? - Frutels Review
84The Good, The Bad, & The Acne
If you suffer from frequent breakouts or severe acne, the advertisements for Frutels Gummy Candy for Acne may have caught your eye. The premise is appealing: eat candy, clear your acne. But do Frutels really work? And, perhaps more important for the average person, is the product worth the money?
At $27.95 for a one-month supply, Frutels is more expensive than Proactiv, which is certainly a downside for the average consumer... and this is assuming that you're taking the lowest dose of two candies a day, recommended for those with "mild acne." If you're looking that desparately for a solution, your acne is probably not mild, and you could end up taking up to 5 candies a day, which would make your monthly bill more like $70 a month, which is not exactly pocket change. The company sells on Amazon and EBay, as well as their own site, but the prices remain steadily fixed across the board.

But if it works, you say, then maybe you're willing to pay the price. The problem is that it's not clear that it does. The few testimonials on their site do not show before and after pictures, only a few sentences each from about a dozen "happy customers." On Amazon, the user reviews are split: about half give Frutels 2 stars or below.
Complaints range from the bad smell and taste, to having no results, to acne actually worsening while taking the product. Still, there are some who say it's worked wonders for them. What's the science behind Frutels? What's in them that may (or may not) help your skin?
Frutels Ingredients & Side Effects
Every serving of 2 Frutels candies contains the following:
- 50 mg Vitamin C
- 7 mg Thiamine (Vitamin B1)
- 7 mg Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)
- 7 mg Niacin (Vitamin B3)
- 7 mg B6
- 7 mg Biotin (Vitamin B7)
- 7 mg Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5)
- 7 mg PABA (Vitamin BX)
- 7 mg Choline
- 7 mg Inositol (Vitamin B8)
- 3.34 mg Zinc
- 27 mcg Folic Acid (Vitamin B9)
- 7 mcg B12
Note that most of the active ingredients are vitamins, notably B vitamins. B vitamins do help to support your immune system, manage stress, promote new cell growth, and maintain healthy skin -- all important factors in acne treatment -- as well as being a natural metabolism booster. However, the dosage in Frutels is considerably lower than in your average B complex supplement, and at a much higher price.
In addition, some users have stated that their urine turns a bright yellow color from taking Frutels, which is an indication that their bodies aren't using all the vitamins, and are excreting the excess without absorbtion. It seems silly to spend so much money on a product that's just going to pass right through you.
Many Frutels customers also report that they feel ill after eating the candies, which is not surprising. Frutels also contain maltitol, a sugar-free sweetener that acts as a laxative on high doses, or on an empty stomach.
Natural Alternatives
If you're adamant about avoiding benzoyl peroxide, oral contraceptives, or antibiotics, there are other natural ways to combat acne. Instead of shelling out the cash on Frutels gummies, I'd recommend you pick up a good B-vitamin supplement below, and whip up some home acne remedies from natural ingredients, in your own kitchen.
The choice, however, is yours. If Frutels have (or even if they haven't) worked for you, leave a comment below and let us all know about it.

Thanks for that - good information.
Wow. I never knew this. Very interesting info
Great one . I will send it to my cousin
Woah, sounds like it's too good to be true.
Honestly, I don't have acne, but I am prone to some pimples occasionally, and blackheads and I have noticed that when I am a good girl and I drink lots of water, my skin clears up.
i have never heard of these before, it would be a lot easier to just pop a candy than to use a facial product, pretty cool stuff.
thats pretty cool cause i sometimes dont have time 2 wash my face in the mourning so now i can just pop a candy in my mouth and it'll clear acne
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Betzy:
If you look at what I've said, I actually discourage you from taking this product. You'd be better off taking a B vitamin supplement.
Also, it's important to make time to wash your face in the morning and at night, to remove any dead skin that might clog your pores, and reduce oil. I know it seems like a hassle, but once you get into the habit, you won't even think about it anymore.
I love gummies and this way you can kill two birds with one stone. Nice hub.
Hmm... These comments are making me wonder whether anyone's actually read all the way through...
Hi maddie why not just use the vitamin B supplement if anything I can manage stress better I never new that vitamin B was an important factor in fighting acne thanks for the info now I know Ill be eating vitamin B while the rest of the hubbers are eating candy lol hahahaha ~cool~cya
oberbreckling:
You got it! Congrats ;)
Great Maddie
Continue to tell people about the vitamins, great. Thank you for the good article.

Good hub. Though I don't have acne (I'm 56) i have been interested in health food and supplements for a long time. Most of those mentioned are inexpensive even with the most reputable brands.
Very good info.
Hi Maddie,
Never heard of the stuff and don't have acne, but it is a very good review. Had a lot of acne as a kid, and I was pumped full of Vitamin B - which seemed to help. .
What I found even more interesting is the comments. One thing with the way people read articles (especially on the internet) is that they scan. So it's often a good idea to bold the actual things you want to get accross.
Especially the sentence:
"However, the dosage in Frutels is considerably lower than in your average B complex supplement, and at a much higher price."
I mean, that says it all: Just buy a good B-Complex at a cheaper price
what a dream if candy can cure acne as proactiv worked for me but then stopped working!
Even if I don't have acne anymore, the subject remains to interest me. I stopped having really bad acne in my late 20s! I haven't heard of these candies but I think the best way to get rid of acne is through eating and drinking the healthy food. I'm with you on the natural ingredients for the home acne remedies.
Thanks for such great info!
Hello, my name is sequioa gilmore im 14 and im from tx. My opinion is that, this is practically somthing to lol about i mean come on candy that can clear up acne, sounds unedible. And frankly for the people that are saying thanks for the great advise,Ican just kill 2 birds with 1stone.NO, that's really NASTY on your part. Thats not gonna do anything but making the situation worse, because candy is somthing to be eatin for you pleasure or enjoyment, not the clearing of acne. So rethink your thought's and please wash you face. ( THIS IS SERIOUS,NOTHING TO LOL ABOUT,SO GO AND WASH YOU FACE, AND DISPOSE THE GUMMY,LIEING CANDYies!!
This is about vitiman B why dont people get it read it,its not to hard to understand even for a 14 year old ~cool~cya1
Hi Maddie,
As I grow older, I am getting more acne...go figure...lol
I get it ;-) Don't buy the candy, buy vitamin B.
I will be getting some vitamin B!
Thanks,
Carol :-)
I'm glad to see a thorough review from the "it doesn't work" standpoint. However, just because Frutels contain less vitamin B than most supplements doesn't mean a B supplement with more B will work better! Just think--if people are passing the excess vitamins from taking Frutels, why would taking a supplement with MORE vitamin B cause more B to get absorbed? I think that for some people, Vit B works and for others, it doesn't--so really, the same people for whom Frutels don't work probably will not have any better results with any other B supplement!
could you recommend a good vitamin B supplement and something else to use instead of the frutels. I am happy with my results of the product but the price is pretty steep.
I just bought Nature Made B-12 vitamin 500 mcg. Is this alright to take??
Kaitlyn:
Nature Made is a great brand. I take them myself.
Val....If you read what Maddie said more carefully you would understand she is
going by the price range.... Maddie must be a very patient person.
could you please answer my question, it would be extremely helpful
Hi evarod:
Sorry, I thought your question would be answered by my response to Kaitlyn. I like Nature Made vitamin supplements (as shown above this comment section, under the heading "Vitamin B Supplements").
You should remove this thread. Everyone talking here is so old and they are just talking lightly about a subject that doesn't really concern them. Not to mention I am a 19 year old who has been using frutels for about 3 weeks now and I can clearly see a difference in my skin and more importantly in the way my skin FEELS. Frutels gummies are a great way for kids who don't wanna take vitamins or don't know about them to clear their skin up. I don't think you should be so quick 2 discourage this product cuz if u look at other message boards you will see they actually have a pretty high rate of success.
Tony:
My point is not that they don't work, but that there's a cheaper and easier alternative: a B-vitamin complex.
Great infor....
Wish that all of these things when I was a teenager. All we ever had was clearasil, which never really worked. You did a great job with your research.
Take care,
Laurie
Well I have been taking the new frutels chocolate things for a couple days now. I haven't noticed anything, but I don't expect to notice anything for atleast a few more days. I have noticed, however, an improvement in my attitude. I'm only 14, but right now my schedule is busier than my sister's was when she was in high school(And that was REALLY busy, trust me). I get really stressed with homework, extra credit, karate, drama, and all the other things I do. I can't quit any of them, but neither do I have the time to lower my stress levels regulary. Sure, I meditate and do yoga, but by the end of the day, I just limply crawl into bed. At least until I started taking those chocolates. Now i'm much happier, less stressed and even have enough energy at night to babysit my little cousins. I'm not sure if the chocolates will cure my acne, but they've made me happier, and I don't care as much how I look, so i don't really mind if I have a bit of acne(unless it's the unhealthy kind). So i recommend taking the chocolates, if not the gummies, just for those people who don't have time to relax, or get really stressed (Which does create acne). It'll change you outlook.
