Natural Sources of B1

The Energy Converter

B1 Commonly Known As Thiamin

The main function for this vitamin is energy reproduction. Commonly B vitamins are referred to as the B complex vitamin. Each B vitamin has a job which I will discuss in other hubs. The B1 vitamin plays an important role in ensuring the normal functioning of the nervous system.

The sole role of B1is to function as a co-enzyme. This enables it to produce energy. Thiamin (B1) I will use the terms interchangeable throughout this hub. Thiamin use carbohydrates, and protein from the foods we eat to convert it into energy. Thiamin has been known as a vitamin which aides in learning abilities.

Imagine your body as a car. What does a car need to keep it from running out or blowing the engine. I am no mechanic, but I do know a car needs oil in order to maintain its performance. With this analogy in min think of the oil as B1and the car your body. Thiamin aids in keeping your heart in good running condition along with maintaining the red blood cells.

For children Thiamin is essential for their normal growth

For joggers Thiamin is an excellent source to improve muscle tone. The muscles in the stomach, and intestines benefit from B1as well. The muscular tone of the stomach can be strengthen with daily use of Thiamin.

How Does The Body Store Thiamin

B1 is a vitamin which the body uses on a daily basis. The reason for this; the body expells B1 daily through our bodily fluids, sweat, and urination. The body quickly eats any supply of B1 in the upper, lower small intestines. Unlike some vitamins, B1 does not store itself in any of our body tissues. It is used right away as soon as it enters the body, its vehicle is the circulatory system which gives it a ride to our liver, kidney and heart.

Pop Quiz: What causes B1 to be rapidly destroyed in the body?

Answer: Consuming enourmous amounts of sugar and smoking.

Benefits of B1 And Its Effects On Illness

Patients who suffer with depression have been known to benefit from the use of the B complex vitamins to help improve moods. Individuals who suffer with early signs of Alzheimer's disease have used the B complex vitams to help decrease symptoms.

Individual who sufffer with constipation can try using this supplement as a natural way to improve elimination habits.

The most amazing fact that I have discovered about B1 is the ability to relieve dental pain. Dental pain can be reduced or prevented if the patient is given B1 before an operation.

There is a large amount of studies showing the effect of B1 improving the nervous system as well as mental instability. These fact finding points didn't surprise me as the pain prevention facts.

Other studies have also shown Thiamin to be helpful in easing troubles with nausea.

The chronically ill can benefit from taking B1 if they suffer with diarrea in such cases levels of B1 is lost more rapidly when losing body fluids at an increased rate.

Excellent description and illustrations!! I've read that coffee and other drugs deplete a person of B-1 quickly. I've noticed at the end of the day of sipping coffee that I get edgy, mentally foggy and physically exhausted. I suspect this is from B-1 depletion and am planning to supplement it daily. Take an equal amount of Vit C w/B-1 to prevent any teeth problems.

hi Keith the trick with coffee is the amount. A small amount of intake, as well you know when it comes to coffee most of us do go overboard and that is when depletion kicks in. Coffee as you also know sends us running to the bathroom every 15 minutes when you drink to much thats the depletion fluids leaving the body is when you lose the B1.
