How To Make A Happy Easter Pop-up Card
75Celebrate the spring season with a cute pop up card that you can send to family and friends. Do not waste money buying a card at the store when you can make an adorable and crafty creation with your own hands. This springtime card I am creating will be an Easter card because this is a holiday that I always associate with spring. I love the images of flowers, bunnies, and chickies that come along with the Easter holiday, so this card will celebrate this special time of year. I will be sending this special Easter card to my niece and nephew.
Step One: Start With Blank Paper
Step Two: Divide The Paper In Half
The easiest way to divide the paper in half is by using a ruler. In a pinch I have also used the spine of an old book.
Step Three: Draw A Box On The Top Half of The Pop-Up Card
Measure accurately when making the box on the top half of the card.
Step Four: Draw A Box On The Bottom Half of The Pop-Up Card
Step Five: Making The Pop-Up
This is a video I made for my first hub about how to make a pop-up card. The blue arrows will show you which lines to cut out. Once the slits are made the pop-up will be folded so it can "pop-up" on the page.
Step Six: Color The Background
For this card I used a green grass colored pencil to create sweeping strokes to fill up the background. These strokes look like grass.
Step Seven: Glue Scrapbooking Paper To The Front of The Card
For this project I used scrap booking paper to cover the hole made by the pop-up. In the past I have printed out any image on card stock or drew a picture onto card stock, but I find using scrap booking paper is very easy because there is already an image on the sheet. Since I like to draw my own pictures and do not buy scrap booking pictures at the store I always decide to draw the backgrounds and pop-up images for my cards. However, I use scrap booking paper to create the cut-out letters I put on the inside of my card. I love this mixture of medias and it allows me to express my creativity.
Step Eight: Draw And Color The Pop-Up Image
Daffodils are one of my favorite flowers and these always remind me of spring. For this Easter card I decided to use daffodils because these were usually blooming around Easter when I was growing up, so I have always connected this flower with the holiday season. Choose anything you like to draw when creating your own pop-up card.
Step Nine: Gluing On The Pop-Up Image
In this video I demonstrate how to glue the pop-up image to the card. Watch the video if you would like to see how this is done.
Step Ten: Sketch Out The Letters For Happy Easter
On a pink piece of scrap booking paper trace out the letters "Happy Easter". Next, cut out the letters. Glue the letters to the card and it is now an Easter card. Of course you can create any message for your own card. For instance, this pop-up card could be a thank you card, a fourth of July card, a Christmas card, or a birthday card.
