How to be a Better Christian Father
1. Have Personal Moments of Meditation and Prayer
There is no substitute for personal devotions. Spend some quiet time on your knees with God. Feed you mind with Scripture and inspiring writers. Go out in nature and admire the flowers, the sky, the stars, and let your mind wander into the universe. Then tell yourself you are a part of this great cosmos, with a diviine purpose. Ask God help you to find your purpose and to love and serve Him and humanity in your purpose, with your gifts.
Be honest with yourself and you will be honest with God. Confess your sins and shortcomings. Ask for strength for today. Pray with a willing heart so that when you get the answers you will obey.
2. Restore the Family Bonding Activities
Pray with you rmate. Confess your faults to ane another and pray for one another.
Restore the family altar. Yes, family worship. You are the priest of the home. Lead the family in bible readings, singing, and prayer. Teach the little ones to pray.
Pray for your children and tuck them in at nights.
Have a family games night where you turn off the TV and play games you all enjoy. Tonight we should play Scrabble or dominoes. In the early years of my marriage I used to have a No TV Month!
Plan picnics, beach trips, park tours and so on for your family. You need it as much as they do.
3. Love at Home
Forget about blaming the economy for your troubles. Stop moaning about health troubles, missed deadlines, and bills.
I have found that at the end of the day the line from that little song really works: "The way to be happy is to make others happy".
Too many fathers and husbands are expending energy making their customers and church members happy. These are good things which must be done. But are we going out of the way to make our family happy? Honestly?
