Improve your life learning a sexy dance
86I know, you must be thinking “how the heck is learning to dance is going to improve my life?” As if you didn’t have enough things to do already trying to stop smoking, stop drinking, start a hobby or just sitting there and thinking about what you should put in your New Year’s resolution list. But you know finding the time and discipline to starve and bully your body into shape is difficult –if not impossible. That is one reason while I favour dancing as a way to getting into shape while having fun. While dancing you don’t even notice that you are working out. I mean dancing for fun, dancing in a party, dancing after a copious dinner, and even dancing in the kitchen while you sing, using a cucumber as a microphone. Dance is not only a great exercise, but one of the best therapies to keep you happy.
Why should I dance?
Let me give you a few reasons to change your mind. I am sure after you finished reading this hub you will be on your way to “cha-cha” yourself into a happier and more confident person.
1) Anyone can dance regardless of age and physical ability. My grandmother, aged 80 is the Queen of the parties; no one can stop her dancing all night long.
2) Dance is one of the most gentle and fun ways to exercise. It stretches and tones the whole body without building bulky muscles.
3) Dancing is a type of aerobic exercise because it increases your heart rate.
4) You do not need any special equipment to get you started. All you need is the willingness to dance and have fun.
5) You can dance alone at home, with a partner or with friends or on stage. You can do it at any time and to any rhythm, choose the rhythm that better suits your abilities and personality.
6) When you are dancing, you learn to have control over your body; therefore you become more confident about your body movements.
7) Dancing improves the quality of your movements.
8) Dancing forces you to breathe correctly.
9) Dancing is good for your skin. Do you remember the last time you danced? Did you become beetroot red? Well, that is good for your skin. It means that your body is sending more blood to your skin surface in order to cool you down so oxygen multiplies to fill the smallest capillaries of your skin.
10) When you start dancing regularly, you will be conditioning your body and at the same time discovering you have more energy and vitality.
11) Dancing releases a hormone in your body called noradrenalina which gives you a natural high that makes you more alert and increases your sense of wellbeing.
12) Dancing decreases your feeling of hunger. Not only can you not eat while you are dancing but the noradrenalina released by your body acts like a natural appetite suppressant.
13) Dancing raises beta-endorphin levels in the body, which help you to relax and sleep better. Therefore, dancing provides mental relaxation.
14) Most types of dance strengthen the stomach muscles giving you a leaner figure and improving your body posture.
15) Dancing is a type of exercise that is always building up in difficulty. You start with some basic steps and you can try more complicated ones as your muscles strengthen.
16) Dancing helps to clean your body through sweat. Sweat also helps lubricate your skin, a very valuable function as a person ages and the skin becomes drier.
17) Regular dancing is synonym with cardiovascular fitness.
18) Regular dancing increases the mineral content in your bones making problems such as osteoporosis less likely.
19) Regular dancing makes joints more flexible.
20) Dancing burns up stored fat.
Do you need any more reasons to bring out your dancing shoes? Actually, for some dances like belly dancing you don’t even need shoes!

Some sexy dances that you can try:
TANGO
Born in Buenos Aires, the Tango is the most sensual dance I have ever experienced. I grew up watching -hidden behind curtains- my grandmother dancing the Tango with my grandfather. Their bodies’ together, intertwining limbs, their feet sliding along the parquet floor, their look of complicity, my grandma’s voluptuous hips and my grandad’s thin moustache. I remember asking grandad to teach me the tango. He looked at me and said “it’s not a dance for children. Someone else will teach you when you become a woman”. That is how the Tango acquired a “something forbidden” about it, something only women and their men could do. 20 years later I still feel a mixture of guilt, pleasure and nostalgia every time I hear a tango.
The dance is actually amazingly easy for women. I cannot dance the Tango with just anyone. I need to dance it with an experienced partner, someone who can handle his lady, and then I can be the queen of the floor. All you need to dance the Tango is a strong hand on your waist guiding your movements. The rest… the rest comes naturally.
The video below shows a scene from the film Take the lead: A film starring Antonio Banderas and based on a real life story about a dance teacher (Pierre Dulaine) who brought a dance program to troubled students as a way to improve their self confidence, self esteem and their outlook on life.

The CAN-CAN
Now this is one of my favourite dances. I have very warm memories about it. Cancan is a dance that evokes the libertinage of mid 19th century Paris and my university years. It is a hot dance, full of fun and spirit. As someone once said: “Like ripe strawberries topped with Grand Marnier, then set on fire”.
This dance is not for the faint, you will need to be in top shape for it. From the costume to the energetic movements, Can-can is a dance that will warm you and set you on fire. Once you start you cannot stop. Be prepared to perform cartwheels, splits, and the impossible-looking port d'armes -grasping one leg and pointing it to the ceiling while turning on the other.
I must warn you though; this is one of the few dances that might cause injury. I remember some years ago when I did it for a charity event I ended up with seriously injured knees like most of the other girls who where performing. But would I do it again? YES, I had a great time doing it; I never had so much energy, so much wildness running inside me and the ego boost of being on stage doing it was worth it all the pain!
For those of you not daring enough to try it, you can always see and feel the emotion of the can-can at the Moulin Rouge in Paris. The current show has acrobats, singers, mini ponies, an aquatic tank with huge live snakes, and plenty of topless dancing girls.
French cancan
Whine up
WHINING
A dance from Trinidad mostly done during the carnival has been brought to attention recently by the hit Whine up by Kat de Luna. This dance is better suited for the younger people. Wild, vivacious and very torrid, there is something libidinous about the whine. The music is a blend of calypso, soca and house music.
The dance movements are pulsating, gyrating, and grinding: Very fashionable last summer in the French discos. I had lots of fun Whining last summer!
BELLY DANCE
This is dance that you can do on your own. All you need is the ability to undulate your hips. The movements are easy to follow and you can increase the difficulty as you progress with the steps.

Carmen Mesa dancing Flamenco
Flamenco
The moves in the Flamenco dance are strong and passionate: A mixture of desire, pain and struggle, just like the Flamenco music. Born in Andalusia, Spain, the flamenco is an improvised dance for people with character. Whenever I think about flamenco I think about these self assured women with deep loud voices dressed in body hugging costumes –regardless of their body shape.
I lived in Andalusia for several years and I never managed to capture the sensuality of the Andalusian women dancing the flamenco or the Sevillanas. Perhaps you need to feel the pain or the struggle to be able to transmit it or perhaps you need to have gypsy blood running through your veins. Whatever it is, I know this is a dance that I cannot master but I content myself with just watching them dance and wishing I could do it at least half as good.

Princessa, I love this hub! Thats because I love dance all forms. These are all great dances that are very sexy. I remember being very young and watching a woman in a bar through a window belly dancing, I was amazed, the movements are just so hypnotizing. Too bad I don't have the belly for belly dancing I would love to be able to try it sometime. Thanks for sharing!!
nice hub dancing is good for loosing weight
Great hub! I WISH I could dance like that!! Or any way at all, actually. I even watched the JLo vid, which I normally never do.
Dottie1 : Thanks. Actually anyone can do a sexy dance it is just about feeling the music and feeling sexy. My grandma and grandad are my first memory of "sensual dancers" and they were already grandparents at the time!
Thanks for commenting.
Triplet Mom : don't be afraid to try, in actual fact, as I was told by a Turk belly dancer, you need to have a bit of a belly to do a belly dance. A flat-tummy cannot do all the vibrating and up and down movements :)
Lgali : yes, it is one of my prefered ways :)
Shirley: We can all dance, you just need to find YOUR dance and have fun with it. Thanks for stopping to comment.
I've always believed that 'dance' is a state of mind. Even if one doesn't know the steps, the body gyrates on its own, in response to the beats, if one is happy inside. Thx for posting another beautiful hub.
I like the approach you took
M
Definitely a great way to stay in shape.
Hi Princessa, another extraordinary hub!! I love to dance, even though I've never had any professional training and Im sure I look funny doing it :D I dance when I cook, I dance while Im cleaning toys, and I dance when I drive...yes, it can be done safely. My 3 girls even dance with me all the time - its a great workout, a great way to bond, and it puts me in a good mood. Well done, sweetie.
wonderful article...makes me to feel like jump immediatley and dance :)
My wife would just laugh her arse off, if I tried to dance for real as a serious thing!
Great hub, I'll pass it on to her to dance away all night long!
nice dance
love the hub! I would love to dance and now I just need the confidence too! BTW! I love thta clip with Antonio Banderas. That is a great movie!
Anjalichugh: Thank you for you comment. Yes, dance is a state of mind; we can dance even without music. As long as one is enjoying it doesn’t matter about the steps. There is a great book that touches this subject, it was written by Paulo Coelho “La Bruxa de Portobello”. A woman who finds her true self dancing.
Ilovehubbing: happy you enjoyed it J
Brian: Yes, it is so much fun that you don’t even notice you are working out.
Ardie: It is amazing what dance can do to improve our mood and outlook in life. Keep dancing with your daughters and have lots of fun.
Natia: Nothing’s stopping you, there is no better time to start dancing than “just now”
Waynet: I would like to see you dancing ;-)
Ram ji: thanks
Tonks: dancing in itself helps improve confidence. The more you dance the more confident you become with it. I liked the movie too, it was very inspirational and the dance scenes were really HOT !!!
I'm putting on my dancing shoes... ta dan!!! LOL Great hub as you encourage people to dance to the movement of life. Way to Go Princessa! :)
ripplemaker : everybody can dance, the rythm is within.
Nice hub Princessa. I wish I could dance, I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun at night clubs. I've tried and lost hope. Maybe someday.
Hi
Good job i like it
How did I miss this Hub, Princessa? Everything you say is so right! For women, I think there's one more reason to dance, especially if they choose an earthy style like belly dancing or tango. Many woman have poor body image or don't feel at home with their body. They often feel awkward when they start learning these kinds of sensual dances, but it's amazing how they transform as they get used to it. After a while they feel really proud of their bodies!
Nice hub. If your mom can still dance at 80, I guess it's not too late for me to take a few dance lessons myself.
Very nice hub. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, lets dance. I used to do it even without music when i was a bit younger. LOL. Its crazy but its fun!
Thanks for taking the time to read and comment guys :)
This is fantastic, dancing has done wonders for me, I am a dancing Queen!
Thank for your videos and niche information on this hub, it helpfully to learning more for me.
