Insectophobia And Other Stories
71
It all began in the forums. Sometimes it just feels like the place is infested with these creepy insects. And there are many varieties of them. They come in all sizes, colors and shapes. The jumpers, the crawlers, the sticks, the bugs, the spammers, to name a few. According to some scientists there are more than 7 million of them all over the globe, and its only natural that some of them try to invade our forums too. Lately it was some China shoe salesmen. Oh, I hate them. Technically the fear of insects is called Entomophobia or Insectophobia, if I am right. What is the treatment for these phobias or how to treat the fear of insects? I guess humor is a good medicine!
Dottie is absolutely terrified of these monster crickets, especially when they appear in her bathrooms and pantry. Actually I should thank her for helping me to jump over the writer's block since she gave me the idea for this hub. Or should I thank that monster cricket?!.
While Mark excels in the humor department some takes his comments very seriously when he was only trying to help and be a little funny about it. Incidentally, he loves the taste of monster crickets dipped in dark chocolate. Very crunchy!. And he usually traps them with a glass before dipping them in chocolate. But it was the hubby and not any hubber who came to the rescue of Dottie this time. He kicked the cricket out and what else are hubbies for. Hubbies can do what hubbers can't.
Shadesbreath feels that America needs an enema, but will set his own house on fire if he can't kill a cricket. Misha has plenty of crickets at home and his kids play with them because dad is too busy hubbing. There will sure be a war if Mark visits Misha's home.
Ever heard of 'jukeems'?. Thats what they call the biggest, the scariest, and the hairiest cockroaches in Israel. Karen and her husband scream and run to their bedrooms when jukeems are in sight. I am not sure whether Mark likes to eat jukeems dipped in maple syrup too. While wanna be bee farmer In-Correct may be correct about learning to live with insects, the thought of wasps landing in his eye make me cringe.

Crickets are our friends and I agree with Rochelle. While she urges you to embrace your fears and let your conscience be your guide, marisue continues to hate those things. Bob is another great hubber who likes cooking and first he threaten the crickets before roasting them. He always keeps chocolate sauce at hand just in case if any unsuspecting cricket who has no idea of his taste buds doesn't listen to him.
Our ailurophile but arachnophobic Maddie has Vivi to deal with crickets. All she has to do is say "Vivi, bug!" and blow at the crickets. The cat will do the rest. No wonder there was feline worship in ancient Egypt. The ever resourceful Patty likes daddy-longlegs but not scorpions.
Sir Dent has teamed up with Mighty Hunter to exterminate these bugs. And I always thought he was a kind man!. Perhaps he also hates bugs. dineane, hates them all no matter what, but one of her NC favorite is the wolf spider. Zsuzsy advises to bring home the lizards to contain the bugs menace.
Marian who grew up in Hawaii has seen something I can only imagine. It seems that they use cockroaches to transport TV and beer over there. The bohemian compu-smart is another arachnophobic who, like Maddie has got a well trained kitty for his defences that respond to the command 'parasites'.
The part Cajun Jerilee narrated a funny story of a cricket which turned out to be an old travel alarm clock in the end. It was hilarious. But it is pretty scary in the case of Barga. All sorts of creatures keep creeping into her bedroom!. The poor thing has to sleeps on the couch most of the time. Reminds me of an old horror movie I have seen long ago.
While Crystal feeds her dragon with thousands of crickets every two weeks, and is going nuts slowly in the process having to listen to their chirping, the self proclaimed insectophobic Shirley loves to listen to crickets. Its music for her. Bill is a brave man indeed. Crickets are like pussycats to him, after witnessing a millipede being dug out from his dad's ears years ago. Louise knows how to deal with such situations. First you syringe water into the ears, if that doesn't work use oil, if that doesn't work call an ambulance, if that doesn't work call Louise.
The latecomer LaVelle has her own devices. Like Shadesbreath she also likes to burn houses down, but with mice inside, while Kate is wondering why crickets jump towards her. And all these time Siva was choking on his chips reading the insect stories. Someone please go and help him.
PS: I have written this hub just for fun and actually there no other stories!. I did't mean to offend anyone. Please let me know if you want your name to be removed from this hub.
Best Regards
SunSeven
Update: The most reliable sourceress Maddie has changed Vivi into a dog and she is angry with me for not mentioning this. I had been away for more than two months. So I am seeing the comments only now. Sorry for the delay in the update

Aww SunSeven, what a fun hub! You are so good at surprising people.
It must've been tricky, you did a great job. Thx for mentioning me.
So we're going for a goal of a million page views? Wow, I'd better start Stumbling!
Thank you Shirley. I am glad that you liked it. L)
Best Regards
Hei.. I am searching for my name.. How could you miss me?
You are somewhere in there Murali :)
Oh SubSeven really it is interesting
Hi sunSeven i have voted in the poll. Good style
Thank you for dropping in new blossum and ben bridge. :)
Regards
lol fun hub SunSeven. You summed it up rather nicely!
OMG SunSeven, this hub is a riot.
I'm sure glad Jiminy cricket helped you out of your writer's block.
And poor Mark, how rude I was! I did apologize to him and he did get a new fan!
BTW I have no more insectophobia thanks to all the funny medicine I received in the forum thread. I even voted yes in the "do you like insect" poll.
Thumbs up and I too wish you a million page views:) ~Dottie~
i voted yes to the insects and am now going to the hub pages to check the names I don't recoqnise.
those are a lot of names :)
"...and what else are hubbies for."
ROFLOL
Funny hub! As great as that thread started by Dottie!! I too wish you a million page views, SS :)
Thanks for the mention, and for immortalizing a classic thread!
I'm sure the thieving cockroaches of the islands will eat it up, too ...
I love the way you write Div. You have a great talent for comedic writings which i hope i can strive one day. Excellent work on this hub. Loved the humor and light hearted jabs. Thumbs up :=)
*I only just saw my name after i posted this comment and was about to leave. hehe. Crickets In the ear canal and bugs on the lips made my stomach do somersaults. Whose wouldn't? I hate insects of any kind
SunSeven! Awesome fun hub. The ones with some humor are always my favorites. We have to find out what the name of the phobia is... for the worst bug of all, the 'spammer'bug.
great hub regards Zsuzsy
I voted yes. Insects are my third favorite food!
I have a thing about spiders. Especially the big ones that got into my house when I lived in South Texas. Had a cockroach crawl into my mouth one night when I slept. Didn't eat it. Pulled it out with my fingers. Didn't know what it was until I felt it squirming in my fingers. Crushed it, jumped up, turned the light on, then the freaking out began.
Soo funny SunSeven! but not having the hairs all over my body standing on end thinking about my kitty eating (LOUD crunching sounds!) spiders!!
Although i have a huge Phobia I actually love spiders, as long as there in the garden and NOT my bath!! lol
Funny!!!!!!! You have a great sense of humor. I like bugs - if they are somewhere other than where I am. I voted no. Thumbs Up and Stumble. I'll try to catch up to you as long as you don't turn the bugs loose on me. ~ eddie
What a creative Hub! Such a nice way to feature cool Hubbers and fun Hubs. Thumbs up! Oh, and spiders are my friends. Roaches, never! :)
Pretty clever and funny hub. Laughter is a power that heals. Thanks for sharing this hub. Feel free to see my new one, "Life Change". Sincerely: Gary Eby, author and therapist.
lol
Nice one SunSeven. :)
And don't worry Dottie, I didn't take it personally. My humor can be a little, "biting," sometimes. My secuse- 2 brothers, boarding school and English lol
Funny!
Just a note... Vivi is a *dog*, not a cat. (I'm actually allergic to cats.) This would make me a cynophilist.
My father is an Exterminator, no kidding. I mean he manages the place now but back in the day, i had the best science projects...lol.
This really brought a smile to my face!! I know I am missing out on a joke in there somewhere, but it still made me smile!
I'm wounded! I appear nowhere in this!!
seem like u have fliar to write well....freelance it and u can make good cash with it ....
As one who spent their career exterminating bugs I am deeply and mortally offended that you didn't include me.
Fun hub, I had a cat once that ate cockroaches, very usefull but the noise was ghastly!!! I voted no....they may be essential and all that but dey UUgly!!
Good hub, I enjoyed it
Best Regards

You are somewhere in there Murali :)
I have searched thoroughly.. Missing... somewhere?
You were among my three nominees for Featured Hubber of the week SunSeven, good luck.
Dog! Dog! Vivi is a dog! SunSeven, don't you read your comments???
I'm not a huge bug fan myself. My porch is infested with flies. Flies, flies, everywhere! And I do love my flyswatter. And those flies just don't understand that I'm'a gonna kill 'em with mah trustly flyswatter. :-P
Cute hub, though. Loved the little stories. :-D
I just had to vote no because you said I teamed up with Mighty Hunter to exterminate them.
Really good read - Thank you
LOL - I missed this when it was published and just found it searching on my name, per another forum discussion. Thanks for mentioning me, but just to clarify, the wolfe spider is one of my LEAST favorites! :-)
Great hub! I'm relatively new to the hubpages and this one has introduced me to alot of the other hubbers' pages. It is very entertaining, too.
Tootles!!
Thanks for sharing this info :)
Wow, this is a very interesting and fun page to read! thanks a bunch for the entertainment!
Big hairy cockroach in Israel?? I am staying in Alabama where our cockroaches are slick! <smile>
I was supprised to see that more people liked insects than not.
This has been an interesting hub, sunseven!
nice hub--what an awesome way to get a bunch of hubbers involved. Such a good idea.
Hmmm, I've been meaning to try some chocolate covered bugs. Working up the courage ;-). I really liked this hub.
I like this hub but I still don't like insects much
