Larabar Bars Basic Recipe
To make Larabar bars at home you need basically dates and nuts. The dates amount is half that of nuts, if you add other ingredients like fruits or coconut, dates may account for 1/3 the whole ingredients, and all depends on your preferences as long as you keep the amount of dates that glues the recipe.
To make 5 Larabar bars you need :
Ingredients
- 50 grams Dates
- 100 grams Nuts ( roasted, unsalted)
Procedure
- Chop the nuts by pulsing in a food processor but do not make powder
- Pit the dates and microwave them for 15 seconds on high
- Mash the dates using the back of a fork ( try a potato masher?) to make a smooth sticky paste (the glue)
- Add the nuts successively to the dates and mix using a spoon, a spatula, or your hands until nuts are fully incorporated
- Wipe the inside of a small rectangular container with a few drops of water. Cover the inside with a plastic wrap and work out the air bubbles. Put the mixture and spread evenly by pressing into the corners
- Place plastic wrap over the top and leave for 2 hours
- Turn out onto a cutting board or any even surface
. Cut into 5 even bars and wrap each one in a plastic wrap. Keep in the cupboard, or in the fridge for 1 week.
The shape, taste, and finish would be improved if you repeat the process.
Chocolate Cherry “Jocalat” Larabar Bar :
Ingredients :
- 150 grams date paste
- 100 grams mixed nuts (Brazil nuts, pistachios, cashews, almonds, and hazelnuts)
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- a good pinch salt
- 1 tablespoon cacao nibs (not chocolate covered)
Procedure :
- The same procedure for basic larbar bars recipe except that you will mix the flax seeds and almonds in the food processor. The amounts of salt and cinnamon are up to you.
Apple Pie Larabar Bars
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups dates
- 1/2 cup almonds (roasted, unsalted)
- 1/4 cup walnut
- 3 apples
- 2 TBS raisins
- 2 TSP cinnamon
Add apples, raisins, and cinnamon to the dates paste in a blender, and proceed as usual. Keep in the refrigerator.

- 1 Tablespoon dates
- 2 Tablespoons almonds

- 1 Tablespoon dates
- 3 Tablespoons almonds
- 1/4 teaspoon each of cinnamon & nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
* Cranberry Coconut Larabar Bars:
- 2 Tablespoons minced dried cranberries
- 1 Tablespoon unsweetened coconut
