Updated on October 12, 2010

The symptoms that show that you are not able to manage your stress levels are restlessness, irritability and lack of energy. Even during nights, you will not have a peaceful sleep. Other symptoms are that you will not be able to concentrate on anything and you will be worrying constantly. It is very important to tackle this problem. Otherwise, various other health complications may result. There are certain steps you can take to manage your stress.

- You must prioritize your work. Otherwise, you will always have unfinished important work and this will increase your tension and stress.

- If you are a person who is always aggressive in doing things, it is high time you slow down. You can not afford to be hard on yourself any more.

- Delegating your work is a skill that should be learned. You should not try to do all the work yourself and increase your burden. If you delegate all the routine work to others, you will have more time to do your work slowly and with more focus.

- If you have problems that make you a worried person, you should share your problems with some of your close friends and relatives. This will greatly relieve you of your stress and worry.

In addition to these, these are certain physical steps you may take for busting your stress:

- Deep breathing is a great tool that can reduce your stress. It will have a calming effect on your mind. But, it is better to learn deep breathing because experts say that breathing exercises are similar to taming a tiger. If you handle it wrongly, you may have certain other complications.

- You should rub your palms together and place these warm palms over your eyes. If you keep the palms on the eyes for sometime, you will feel that tension is ebbing out of your system. You should try to keep your mind relaxed while doing this exercise.

- You must tense your body and after holding for a few seconds, you should relax slowly.

- Exercises are a great stress-busters. You must make it a habit to exercise regularly. This will not only divert your mind and reduce your stress but will improve your overall health also.

- Yoga and meditation are good for managing your stress levels. These exercises improves blood circulation and hence, all the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients are carried to every part of your body.

- Skipping your breakfast is another factor that causes stress. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it should supply at least one-third of the energy that is required for the day. If it is skipped, you will not have the required energy and hence, your output during the day will be below par. This will create more tension and stress.

- Healthy eating habits will help you in managing your stress. If you are not supplied with essential vitamins and minerals, managing your stress levels can not be accomplished. Instead of eating unhealthy foods like junk foods and processed foods, you should switch to fiber foods that supply enormous vitamins and minerals to your system.

- Above all, you should practice to encourage yourself with positive affirmations. Self-appreciation will help you to change your attitude towards and others. If you start loving yourself and learn to take people as they are, your tension will reduce.

By adopting the above steps, you can lead a stress-free and healthy life.
