Llangollen, Clwyd, Wales
In 2006, I was fortunate to be able to travel to the UK twice, once in March and again in May when my teenage daughter could join me. One of the places we visited briefly was Llangollen in Wales. My husband-to-be escorted my daughter and I all over the UK showing us all the sights, some you'd find on a tour map, and others you would not. He made an excellent tour guide.
There are several things I noticed about Wales. First, I felt like a contestant on "Wheel of Fortune" because I regularly felt the need to buy a vowel. Welsh words seem to be lacking in the vowel department. I saw an awful lot of l's, y's, w's and d's. I joked on another hub of mine about my UK visit that I swear I sound like I'm choking on something when I try to pronounce "Llangollen". My Texas tongue just doesn't quite know how to curl around the right way for that middle part of the word. If you know how the Welsh pronounce it, you'll know what I mean.
The other thing I noticed about Wales was their hospitality. Being from the hospitality state, that's something I notice and appreciate wherever I go. We visited several shops in Llangollen and everyone was very nice. The gentleman at the register at the souvenir shop was quick to pick up on my Texas accent and struck up a conversation. The little Welsh porcelain doll you see below was an item I purchased at his shop, along with lots of souvenirs I brought back for friends and family.

Tintern Abbey
Seeing the ruins of Tintern Abbey was something I did on my first visit in March. It was simply breathtaking. It's one of the things on my list to show my daughter the next time she goes back.
If you've followed my hubs for a while you'll know I have a deep appreciation for architecture. These remains are simply majestic. My pictures do not do it justice. Tintern Abbey was founded in 1131. That's a date that is unfathomable to most Americans. In Texas, I get excited if I find something built in the late 1800s that is still standing.

Chepstow, Wales
Chepstow Castle is the oldest surviving stone fortification in Great Britain. It's a shame that the weather was so gloomy on the day I was there because the castle really doesn't look at dreary as it appears in this photo. Visit Wales
If you find yourself in the UK, be sure to visit Wales. It is beautiful and you'll find the people to be very hospitable.
