May 8th 2011 Marks 30 Years of a Wonderful Marriage

Updated on August 13, 2013

My Wife Is My Life

Thirty years ago on May 8, 1981 I stood before many while I took my oath and took my wife's hand in marriage. What a beautiful day to remember each and every year that passes.

Sad to say, but many people that have grown up in my generation, their marriages unfortunately don't last and if they do, many of them are horrible. In my case, I was truly blessed to find the women of my dreams 30 years ago.

Many of you may have read the hub I wrote about just how I met my now wife way back 35 years ago and if not go ahead and read it because it will show you how fate works and how if you are determined enough you will find your true soul mate in life. Beings we both love the beach and Ocean I named it our footprints in the sand.

Ups and Downs

No one really has a fairy tail marriage. There are always ups and downs throughout any marriage, but if you both truly and unconditionally love each other enough you will work out your differences or problems and stay together forever.

One very important thing I learned to help keep our marriage together was to never go to bed mad or in the middle of a argument. Work out your problem before going to sleep and in the morning you will feel good about yourself and that you have resolved your problem.

I knew of a couple that did go to bed in the middle of a argument and unfortunately one of the spouses did not awake in the morning. How do you think the other spouse felt knowing that they went to bed mad and never got a chance to makeup or apologize and then it was too late. I personally don't think I could live with that for the rest of my life.

There is a sign hanging over my headboard in my bedroom saying," Always Kiss Me Goodnight." and I make it a point every night not to ever forget to do so, even if the wife is sound to sleep. It makes me feel good that I can go to sleep in peace with nothing hanging over my head of quilt.

The most fascinating thing about my marriage is that we both from the moment we met had everything in common, except one, which was drinking alcohol. My wife wanted to be with me as I drank and started to drink with me, but she could never keep up with me and got sick every time she drank. Finally, she said I can't drink with you anymore, you will just have to drink alone, so I did for many many years.

One other thing that really told me how much she loved me was that she stuck it out through thick and thin and put up with my drinking and never left me because of it. She of course hated my addiction, but stood by my side knowing deep down in her heart that one day I would come to my senses and quilt drinking alcohol. She was right, I did come to my senses and quit drinking October 27, 2009 and I must say our marriage is stronger than ever now. We enjoy all those things we had in common way back when I first met her and enjoy them all now being clean and sober.

I quit drinking alcohol and our long time dream to own a home by the sea is now a reality.  We finally made it and life is better then ever.  We are now living our dream and are the happiest we have been in all those years of marriage.

Marriages are only what you make of them. You can make them miserable or you can work together to make then the best years of your lives.

So to end my little story:  HAPPY 30TH ANNIVERSARY LINDA AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT IS IN STORE FOR US IN THE NEXT 30 YEARS.

I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU AND KEEP YOU CLOSE TO MY HEART FOREVER!

LOVE,

MARK
