Surgery for breast lift in English or mastopexy in medical words is just what its name implies: a surgical procedure to lift or raise sagging female breasts.

The breasts tend to yield to gravity as evidenced by its weight due to pregnancy, lactation, large variations in weight and other physical changes. The falling and sagging breasts are almost inevitable and in some people are more pronounced than in others. Plastic surgery can improve the appearance of the breasts in these cases. Something that every good surgeon will tell their patients is that the results of this plastic surgery is not for life, over the years the raised breasts can sag again.

To raise the breasts, it usually requires the surgeon to cut the excess skin to correct sagging and accommodate the remaining skin to look firm. Because of this, re-location of the skin may be required to move the nipple and areola to a higher position to give naturalness.

All this means that there will be several incisions: A flat in the part where the breast meets the torso that is covered a bit in the shadow of the breasts. There is also a vertical scar running from the center of the breasts down to the beginning of this, this is the most visible scar and even over time if there is good will become less visible scarring but it is impossible to make it disappear.

The more pronounced is the sagging or drooping of the breasts, the more prominent are the scars in those cases. The cosmetologists indicate that the best alternative in terms of achieving firmness is to make several cuts but the patients should feel free to express their desire.

In some surgeries, breast lifting or suspension of the mammary gland is separated from the nipple so that a woman can breastfeed babies after the operation but generally there are procedures which do not require this separation and woman can easily breastfeed their babies. In some cases, the surgeon also corrects the size of the areola as desired by the patient.

In many cases, for best results, a patient has to use an additional implant for the uprising of breasts. The implant size increases and improves the shape and texture of the breasts. It can be used for woman opting for bigger breasts or because it has lost much tissue or fat in the breasts. Many cosmetologists think that the results of implant surgery last longer.

Gynecomastia or male breasts

Many men feel very aware of the excess fat and tissue located in the area of their chest. Fortunately, these men having gynecomastia can be treated with a procedure that is sometimes called breast reduction surgery in males. There are two variations on this procedure, depending on the needs.

If growth is due to a glandular problem, it involves making a small incision in the lower half of the areola from where glandular tissue is removed. This is usually sent for histopathology.

Following the intervention, there are only a few stitches, which are removed in a few days. Then, a pressure bandage is applied over the area. The final scar depends on the characteristics of each person.

When the results are received from histopathology, then the surgeons decide on different options of surgery.

If it is an accumulation of fat - for obesity - the treatment most commonly used is liposuction, which is done through small incisions that go completely unnoticed later and do not leave a scar.

When gynecomastia is combined, treatment using both procedures is done. The surgeon removes the excess glandular tissue and simultaneously vacuums the fat tissue.

The postoperative course is the same in all three cases. During the first days of surgery, patients can see purple ecchymosis that gets absorbed on its own in about 15 days.
