More Android Quick Free Game Reviews for September 2010: fruits, tanks, slice, and pirates
More Games, more fun!
Here's more game reviews for September 2010... All free games, all the time. We got retro, strange combo, and more this time.
Panzer Panic
You have 3 tanks, and you have to fight the enemy tanks on this paper-game inspired shooter. You can "drag" your tank around the playing field, but you have limited "ink fuel". You start with three tanks. Enemy tanks need two shots to destroy, and you "flick" from your tank to shoot. How many waves can you survive? There are random power-ups on the battlefield like extra tank, extra fuel, rapid fire, and so on.
In actual play, the game was amusing for a short while, as the enemies attack simultaneously, but you can only control one tank at a time, and there's no way to quickly switch among them (no hot key or button).
At least this has more amusing graphics than that other game "Crossfire", same mechanics.
Call it 7 out of 10.
Pokanoid
This is a weird combo... any one every played video poker at a casino? Basically the idea is the computer give you a random hand and you choose which cards to keep and which cards to discard and get new ones, and you form a hand, and the better the combo the more points you get.
Well... Pokanoid is video poker combined with Arkanoid / Breakout. Really. You bounce a ball around, and every "brick" you hit is a "card" that falls down, which you can grab to make a hand. A weird combo, but seems to work. There's a blank area below the playfield so you don't block the view with your finger controls. Not very obvious (should have like a tiny "touch pad" linked to the paddle above).
Call it 7 out of 10 (for effort)
Fruit Pirate
From the people who brought you My Paper Airplane 3D... Fruit Pirate (3D) is a variant of shooting gallery... fruits of various sizes are tossed into the air, and you need to slice it (more than once if possible), but don't hit the red skulls!
You get bonus points if you slice it more than once in flight, and don't miss any and don't hit the red skulls in a streak.
There are special power-ups that you can slice to activate, like "blade time" (slo-mo), and so on. Clearly they make things easier and more variable.
Kinda fun as the trajectory of the fruits will vary. Good for short games, see how good are you in a few minutes.
The full version have more modes.
Rating: 7 out of 10
Pacific Wings
Here's a 1942 clone... Yes, 1942, not 1943, a much superior game.
Same planes, same subject, same almost everything. You are a single plane out to shoot every enemy you come across as you fly across some nondescript islands over water... Yeah.
If you feel like some retro action, I guess you can give this a try.
6 out of 10, I guess.
