The Mormon Temple Ceremony
Recently, the Mormon temple ceremony has been receiving quite a bit of attention by the mainstream media. You might even have seen a recent re-enactment on HBO's "Big Love" depicting a portion of a Mormon temple ceremony. For most people, outside of the LDS Church - what goes on inside a Mormon temple, has been shrouded with what many feel to be, a cloud of secrecy.
There are currently 129 operating temples around the world, with others announced or under construction. With such a rapid increase of temples popping up over the last decade, and around the globe - it only makes sense that people would become more and more curious about Why Mormons Go To The Temple?
There are some who believe, that by exposing the physical aspects of the temple rituals, that an understanding of the ceremony can be gained. From the earliest days of temple worship, symbolism has ever been the path through which God is able to teach his faithful sons and daughters, a deeper understanding of spiritual truths.
"Mormons feel that few outsiders have a full sense of what temple worship means to the faithful, or why they hold it so sacred. That's because the ceremony is richer and more powerful, they believe, than the architecture, the special clothing or even the ritual re-enactments. -- It has to be experienced to be understood." The Blessings Of The Temple - Teachings Of Mormonism
Temple Worship Is At The Very Center Of The LDS Life
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, are a temple building, and a temple loving people. Mormons are committed to temple worship, as the very center of their spiritual lives. In fact, as a member of the LDS Church, it is believed that true worship of God, comes by attending the temple regularly. Through regular attendance to the temple, members draw closer to God, and renew their commitment to live a Christ centered life.
Setting aside the things of the world, and instead - going to the temple to do the Lord's work, is to them considered "sacrifice", as in the days of ancient Christianity. It is a universal understanding to most every Christian, that "sacrifice" brings forth the blessings of heaven. To a member of the LDS Church, there is no greater blessing, than to come to know God - learn His will, and strive daily to keep His commandments.
"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou has sent." John 17:3

A Mormon Temple - What Happens Inside?
What Happens Inside A Mormon Temple?
With so many more LDS Temples being built, you might even have one in your own city, and wonder exactly what is going on inside of these beautiful buildings that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, have erected.
You may also have heard, that what goes on inside of a Mormon Temple, is not secret - but that it is sacred. That's actually, very true. Members of the LDS Church,
who are able to go inside a temple themselves, actually make a promise
to leave what happens in the temple, at the door when they leave.
However, the affect on individual members of their temple experience,
stays with them each and everyday of their lives.
The LDS Temple
experience is intended to help us become a better people. Inside of the
temple, members are taught more about the blessings that God desires to
bestow upon those who are faithful to His commandments. LDS members make sacred covenants inside of the temple, which are solemnly regarded.
The LDS Church teaches, that Families Can Be Together Forever. There is no better place that this is taught, than inside a Mormon Temple...

I suppose there is no bad publicity if you work it right. I'm glad you were able to use this incident to portray the positive.
Thank you for this beautiful hub. More temples pictureswould even have been great.
Keep on Hubbing.
What a coincidence, I just returned from the Seattle Temple a few hours ago and this wonderful hub popped up! In my mind it makes too much sense and answers the age old question, "What is the meaning of life?"
Why should we live, and have families, and then die only to be disassociated from those whom we have grown so close to? It needs not so be!!! This life is a preperation for the next one; marriage, families, and the divine nature of the body. Man and Woman are made to compliment eachother they are incomplete without eachother, together they are the essence of true godliness.
Beautiful pictures of the temples. I think that all religion have their own system on how they worship and that each of them are different. :)
I love the temple. I am so grateful that my husband and I were able to be sealed in the temple. Now, I feel like our family is complete. The temple is such a peaceful, beautiful place where you can feel God's spirit so strong. I learn new things each time I go. Thank you for making this wonderful site.
Well done.
um...it takes going to the temple, seeing man's creation and painting done by man that makes people closer to God? that's kinda sad. It takes being sealed in the temple to be closer to your family and love one? that's kinda sad. Why can't you see it everyday in your life without having to go to the temple. Doesn't God exist everywhere. And if you're divorce but were sealed in the temple, didn't you just break your vows and your belief?
question1 -
Just because our children can cause us heartbreak, should we then not have them? Just because you might get in a car accident, then should we not drive? Your logic, makes no sense to me, at all.
Temples are constructed to be beautiful. They are an offering to God. They are meant to evoke feelings of heaven on earth. They are meant to help us see beyond the mundane of this life - to a better. They are to help us maintain an eternal perspective -- and appreciate everything in this life, given to us, by God. Temples are, and have always been symbolic in meaning... symbolic of our purpose here on earth.
And because "some" divorce, should none of us then reach for the highest ideals of love, family and eternity -- the greatest blessings of all?
You, I am assuming are a Christian.... so, because you are not perfect in keeping all the commandments, all of the time -- do you then, choose to ignore them?
Once again, I don't understand your logic. Mormons go to the temple to make sacred covenants, with promises that bless our lives here, and we believe into the next life. The covenants that we do make in temple, we believe bind our families for eternity. For members of the LDS Church, temple attendance enriches everything else about our lives...
