Prevention of infectious diseases
Prevention of many infectious diseases is easy when you put in min some very simple rules and safety tips. Some infectious diseases can be transmitted as droplet infections (sneezing and coughing, etc), blood borne or by what's called "feco-oral" route, which means ..ahem "unclean hands after using the bthroom" or food that is contaminated by excretions (either human or animals).
Droplet infections
Influenza (oh!), measles, mumps, tuberculosis, diphtheria and respiratory tract infections are transmitted by droplets (coughing and sneezing) or by contact with respiratory secretions of infected persons.
Preventing droplet infections:
-Avoid getting in close contacts with infected people and avoid any contact to their respiratory secretions.
-During epinedmics or in a hospital, wear a mask or a respirator.
-Kissing! If you live in a country where just everyoneis kissing each other (even men are kissing men in some countries) as a greeting, try to avoidkissing strangers or infected people.
-Avoid using contaminated towels or wearing the clothes of infected persons.
-If you are infected or having flu for example, please use a tissue and don't kiss people!
-Vaccines are available for many of these diseases : influenza, measleas, German measles, mumps, etc.
Food borne diseases
Some of the examples are food poisoning, typhoid, cholera, hepatitis A virus, and others are transmitted via contaminated food.
How to avoid spreading and catching them:
- Make sure you wash vegetables and fruits very carefully before eating them.
- Pay attention to the cleanliness of any food you eat outside, and to the place too. (well, try to!)
- Avoid canned food that is distended, smelly or expired.
- Make sure that meat and chicken are cooked properly.
- Wash your hands with water and soup before eating, cooking or serving food to others.
Blood borne diseases
These diseases spread via blood and most of them also spread via different body secretions (semen, saliva and vaginal secretions, etc).
How to prevent infection with them:
- Never share razors and toothbrushes with anyone.
- Avoid getting in contact with blood as possible, same thing goes for body secretions.
- If you are receiving an injection, make sure that the yringe is styrile and disposable.
- At the barber's shop, it's better to bring your own blades and scissors to avoid infections.
