These are a Few of my Favorite Books

Updated on March 23, 2014

Definitely a passion

Okay so I love to read books and as everyone out there knows, there is not a lot of time that we can devote to reading books. I have compiled the books here that I have read in the last couple years that have been, in my opinion the best. They may not be in the order that I read them and they are not on a list as which one is my favorite of all. However, they are by far the best books I have read in a while. There has been a couple of movies out about a couple of these books and that is fine but if you are old school like me, you know that the book is always better. Happy reading everyone

Lisey's Story

Stephen Kings Best

I have been reading Stephen King since I can remember. I was reading him when he was writing under the name of Richard Bachman and have read everything that he has ever written. I love his style of writing and his sense of humor in the midst of chaos. He is a writer that can scare the pants off you and also make you laugh like no one else. He can at times get a little morbid and weird but that is why I love Stephen King because not only is he one of the most prolific writers but he is also one of the most talented. He watches over the making of all his movies and makes sure that they do not take liberties with them. He is a perfectionist and he remains to be one of my favorite writers.
Now I happen to think that Lisey's Story is by far one of his best books to date. He writes about a women who is a widow and who is coping with her husbands death. When she takes on the job of going through her husband's things to give them away she uncovers more than she gambled on. Not only is she coping with her husband's death but now she has a weird spirit coming after her as well as many secrets about her husband that finally come to light. This book is Stephen King at his very best. A must read.

The Vampire Lestat

by Anne Rice

Okay so I have read all of Anne Rice's books and all her chronicles from the vampire ones to the Mayfield Witches. I know that The Vampire Lestat is one of the books in the Vampire Chronicles but this book stands out and can stand on its own. This book shows Lestat in a whole other world from the time that he was human to the way in which he was turned into a vampire by Marius. It is beautifully written about his life in the country side a couple of centuries back and portrays him as a more human, compassionate, caring individual, far from the Lestat that we read about in Interview with a Vampire. This is my favorite book of the vampire chronicles and you go away with wanting to read more about Lestat the person. Anne Rice is still the best in vampire anthology and she has a way of making vampires kind of likable and even sexy at times. One of my all time favorites Lestat the Vampire stands alone.

A Thousand Splendid Suns

Khaled Hosseini

This tale takes place in the middle east in the midst of war and turmoil. It is a heart wrenching story about a young girl who is orphaned and is taken to live with relatives. The relatives are not thrilled about this for reasons that I wont disclose as to not spoil anything for anyone but she marries a much older man who has another wife. The whole story basically is about the strong friendship that she builds with this other woman;what they share together and the brutality that they have to endure at the hands of their husband. This story is about hope, love, sacrifice, and friendship, a bond that sometimes is so strong that it will make people stronger and help them endure the harshest of circumstances. This is an extraordinary book that will leave you breathless.

The Kite Runner

Khaled Hosseini

Khaled is an awesome writer and since he is from the middle east, he has seen first hand the culture and way of the middle eastern people. The Kite Runner is another book about friendship. This time two little boys Azir and Hasan share a friendship and would run kites together which is a competition against other kite runners. One day something unspeakable happens to one of the boys and things are never the same. The boys are split apart and then the story fast forwards to modern day America. Azir is by now a success in America and learns that his friend Hasan needs his help back in Pakistan. He sets out on a dangerous mission to help his best friend out of guilt, honor and love for his friend. This book is shocking at times and interesting to read as far as the middle eastern culture is concerned. This book was made into a movie a while back but I still think the book is by far better than the movie, although the movie was very well made and was well received.

Another King awesome book

I've traveled the world twice over,
Met the famous; saints and sinners,
Poets and artists, kings and queens,
Old stars and hopeful beginners,
I've been where no-one's been before,
Learned secrets from writers and cooks
All with one library ticket
To the wonderful world of books.
