I've lived in Texas all my life and I have only seen a fraction of the state. There is just so much to see here. To get in the car and drive Texas, you'd spend forever seeing it. One way to help, is to download Google Earth. There are some very interesting places to visit in Texas using Google Earth. I've provided a list of some of the more notable Texas icons that you might want to check out on Google Earth.

Great Places to See in Texas on Google Earth

  • Dallas-Ft.Worth (DFW) International Airport, Irving, Texas-really zoom in and look at the number of airplanes you can see at each of the terminals. There are several taxiing out.
  • Reunion Tower, Downtown Dallas (Ball you see in all skyline photos of Dallas) 300 Reunion Boulevard, Dallas TX 75207 You see it underneath the mass of blue photo squares.
  • Dealey Plaza-101 Houston Street, Downtown Dallas, TX 75202 There are tons of photo cells at this location too. It's very near the Reunion Tower. This is the location where President Kennedy was shot in November 1963.
  • Moody Gardens on Galveston Island & Colonel Paddleboat
  • The Ship "Elissa" and the Texas Seaport Museum at Galveston Island-This 1877 restored ship is beautiful.
  • Ft. Worth Water Gardens at 1502 Commerce St in Ft. Worth 76102-this is a great place in downtown Ft. Worth. I went there for the first time in the early 80s. I remember walking down this spiraling set of steps while the water rushed downwards between all the steps. The problem I had was coming back up the steps. The water going downward as I'm trying to go up, really made me dizzy. I took my daughter and husband there last year and they loved it.
  • Roscoe, Texas-I found this by accident. Go to Roscoe, Texas and look at the patterns in the land all around Roscoe. Interesting.
  • Border Patrol at El Paso from Juarez Mexico-look at the lines of cars. There are several locations, with some lines longer than others.
  • Enchanted Rock in the Texas Hill Country-this pink granite hill is not as impressive overhead, but click on some of the pictures to appreciate it's beauty and how big it is.
  • Stonehenge II-located on FM1340 two miles west of Hunt, Texas. I was able to find it just putting in "Stonehenge II", but I had already started out in Texas. So, if you have trouble, get to Texas first.
  • Cadillac Ranch-the artistic planting of Cadillacs in Amarillo, Texas. I found the land interestingly flat with the pattern of the back of envelopes. You'll see what I mean if you take a look. You have to remember also that cars planted in the ground aren't as visually appealing from overhead as they would be standing in front of them.
  • McKinney Falls State Park at 5808 McKinney Falls Pkwy, Austin, TX 78744 Look for the blue picture squares to help you find where the waterfalls are.
  • Texas State Capitol Building-1100 Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78701
  • Prairie Chapel Ranch-George W. Bush's Crawford, Tx House

Theme Parks & Waterparks

  • Six Flags Over Texas, Arlington, TX 76011 You'll notice it's a busy day at Six Flags with lots of cars in the parking lot and lots more waiting to get in.
  • Six Flags Fiesta Texas, San Antonio, TX-This was taken on a day when the park was closed. You can still see the Texas shaped pool at the water park and if you get at the right angles you can see how they utilize the surrounding canyon walls for several of their rides.
  • Sea World, San Antonio, TX-this also appears to be taken on a day it was closed. See if you can find the large colorful map of the United States.
  • Kemah Boardwalk, 215 Kipp, Kemah Blvd, Texas 77565 The park appears to be closed on the day this image was taken, but the marinas in the area are packed with boats.

Sports Centers

  • Texas Rangers Baseball Stadium, 1000 Ballpark Way, Arlington, Texas 76011-not a game day. Look at it in 3d mode to see what a beautiful facility it is.
  • Dallas Cowboys Stadium-2401 E. Airport Frwy, Irving, TX 75062-obviously not a game day, but the top is open.
  • Houston Astrodome Stadium-Reliant Astrodome & Reliant Stadium-not a game day. When you put in Houston Astrodome it places you in the middle of street several blocks away. You'll find the white rooftops by scooting to the left.
  • Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie-can you find the lone star in the infield of the race track? Also, not a race day.
  • Texas Motor Speedway-3545 Lone Star Circle, Ft. Worth Tx 76177-not a race day, but you can see the track and infield with incredible detail. There are actually two vehicles on the track just above the entrance into the infield between turns one and two. One is red and one is black.
