The Wonderful World Of Daleks
Daleks are the main enemy of the Doctor, from the popular and long running tv series Doctor Who and they are by far the most recognized alien on the face of television, while they are often likened to huge pepperpots the design of the Dalek is one of the most influential sci-fi designs since the first ever showing of the Enterprise or the Millenium Falcon.
The daleks by their very nature are very hitler inspired by their supreme order authority that they adhere to, the Daleks for me are a good percentage of what the Doctors universe is all about, Evil aliens intent on taking over the world..Can't beat a classic supreme alien notion like that.
When the new doctor who came back on television after at least 15 or so years I was excited to see the Daleks make a return to form right at the very end of the first series.
But with great science fiction alien villains come all sorts of excellent merchandise ideas and toys and all manner of things to cash in on the devoted Doctor Who fan and empty their wallets, this is a look at the weird and wonderful world of the many Dalek items on the internet, what came before and what is available now, trust that I have researched this hub page well and sit back and lets take a look back at the Dalek Stuff of yester year.
Marx Dalek First Doctor Who Toy
Apparently The First Doctor Who Toy - A Marx Dalek
As it says on the well worn box "with robot action" yes robots get some action too! LoL! A battery powered toy that had the knack of changing direction when it hit obstacles with it's pivoting wheel system, created by someone by the name of Louis Marx in late 1964 and also it had a nice touch of a flashing light on it's head, the Marx version of dalek toys were so popular that they went on to have more Dalek variations well into the 70's.
Clockwork Dalek
A Clockwork Dalek From The 60's
This looks more in keeping with the period it came from as the colours suggest cheap materials to produce it, I like the added bonus of the clockwork windup actually being used with a key because nowadays it is not!
The clockwork Dalek came packaged in a box with a sticker which was the fashionable thing at the time.
Foam Bendy Dalek
Bendy Foam Dalek
This is a 1965 foam Dalek that can bend somewhat but not touch it's toes, this is a very rare toy item from the 60's due to the fact of the foam material had sort of a biodegradable quality to it away from the packaging and not many are left in tact. A Company called Newfield Ltd manufactured the horrible looking toy which quite frankly was a waste of time.
Nusery Dalek For a Nursery
A Dalek Nursery Toy
This Dalek nursery toy stood about a foot tall and was sold through Woolworths in the middle of the 60's, which also has just recently closed down because of all this financial hell - Goodbye Woolies!
The simplistic design of the dalek toy was what made this a cheap toy to make and that's what made it easier to sell based on the production values it sold quite well although there became limited numbers as more popular toys like the Marx's Dalek had to be made to order, so this toy didn't last long!

Daleks Exterminate!!! Not Your Favourite Monster/alien?
Some young kids must have almost filled their nappies at that prospect!
Yes, I bet they did, but it must have been really funny too :)

I remember a true story about one of the 'Daleks' accidentally rolling out of the warehouse where it was being stored for filming, and down the sloped road outside. People looking outside their windows saw a Dalek flying by at full speed down the hill outside. Now that must have been surprising!!!
