The "Droid", Motorola's answer to Apple's "iPhone" is here. It landed in the retail market just in time for Friday paychecks and many people are rushing to buy one. It has been long touted as the one to replace Apple's baby. At the very least, the "droid" is a cooler name. In the wake of the latest transformer movie, everyone would like to think that they own a droid. It's just fun. i-phone has always been about me, me, me. I can do this and I can do that. Actually, the I-phone can do many really cool things. It has hundreds of applications and the ones that you don't get free are available in "the apps store". The droid also has hundreds of applications and is supposed to be just as fast as the iphone. So, which is better? In the next section I will compare price and functionality.

First, let's compare price; the Droid hit the retail market at a whopping $200 (or $199.99) to be exact, after a $100 rebate. Whew! That does not include what Verizon will charge for their network. The i-Phone 3G, on the other hand, can be had for $99 and a two year contract with AT&T. In addition, Apple has improved their smart phone with the new iPhone 3GS, which they claim is 2 times faster than the previous model, retailing for $199.00. Of course, everyone knows that when new gadgets hit the market, they can be very pricey at first; then when everyone calms down, the price goes down. For instance, my first DVD player was about $600.00!

As far as function goes, the biggest difference appears to be their physical appearance.The iPhone has a touch screen and only a touch screen while the Droid has a touch screen and a physical keyboard. Also, when the Droid is sitting in it's cradle it makes a nice looking alarm clock. The inner workings of both of these phones are really very similar in speed, function and memory. The Droid may have more free apps than the i-Phone, but how many apps do you really need? The best application that Motorola offers is the Google maps. It provides turn by turn navigation and it's free! Other than that, the biggest difference that I can find is the different networks that these two phones are associated with. Do you prefer AT&T or Verizon? Motorola is a very trusted name,but so is Apple. It all comes down to individual preference. Both have a DVD quality video, a 5 mega pixel camera, and voice activated commands. They both sound good to me.
