The Man Who Bought A Penis
72
I ran across an article about the famous Urologist, Dr. John Lattimer, who once purchased Napoleon's penis for $40,000.00, and found that he had many bizarre oddities stash away in his cozy New Jersey home. When he died at the age of 92, in 2007, his daughter came across Napoleon’s penis, hidden away in a briefcase stored under the doctor’s bed. I also once read somewhere that he had originally purchased the mummified penis, to retire it from it’s former freak show status. Once he had purchased Napoleon’s penis, he refused to let anyone see it again, and would explain how it wanted to keep it safe from public derisions, but moreover, from being the punch line to earlier twentieth century practical jokes. It is said that Napoleon’s penis in it’s shriveled state was at best, one and a half inches long.
Dr. John Lattimer was famous for being the first, nongovernmental personnel, given a medical assignment that included his active involvement, on the medical team working behind the scenes during the Nuremberg trials. He was an attending urologist to Nazi prisoners at the Nuremberg trials and had acquired Herman Goering's suicide vial.
Dr. John Lattimer also possessed, Abraham Lincoln's bloodstained collar, letters written by Lee Harvey Oswald, and a treasure trove of items from his own idiosyncratic relationships to some of the most important historical events of the 20th century. It can be easily said, that Dr. Lattimer was continuously at the right place, at the right time. He even worked on the autopsy of John F. Kennedy and possessed upholstery from the president's limousine car in Dallas.
