France is the most visited country in the world. It has everything a tourist might want: a rich history, glamorous shops, amazing monuments and delicious food. What else would anyone want? Amusement parks for the children? Well, France has many of them too. Some of the most popular amusement parks in France are internationally known such as Disneyland Paris, while others are largely well kept secrets mostly for the French Public only, such as Park Asterix whose main visitors are French and Belgian.

Most theme parks in France are easy to get too and they have hotels available on site.  However, if you want to save money, you might consider exploring the area and choosing a hotel outside the Park, which is often less expensive and offers the added bonus of getting to know the country.

Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris

Visiting Paris? Be sure to include Disney magic in your plans! It is a fact; it is not only children who enjoy parades, themed restaurants, magical hotels and giant rides like the Tower of Terror which takes you plummeting down 13 floors right to the edge of reality. Adults too love giant rides and interactive discovery tours, so why not visit the Disneyland Resort Paris, where you can find all that and much more.

This year the 15th anniversary celebrations continue throughout 2009 with new attractions and special offers like free entrance for children under 7. Just book a package to arrive from 3rd April to 8th November 2009 and all your kids under 7 years old will be offered FREE hotel accommodation and FREE entrance to both Disney® Parks.

The Park is open from 10:00 to 19:00. Once you are in the Park the easiest way to get around is taking their free buses. Travel through the 5 different imaginary countries of the Park. Do not miss Sleeping Beauty’s castle in Fantasy land and Nemo’s submarine in Discovery land.

How to get there:

There are direct and frequent trains from the centre of Paris (RER A line) to the Disney Parks taking only 35 minutes. You can buy your tickets online, in Paris hotels, tourist offices, the main metro and at the entrance to the Parks. You can also buy your tickets at the Disney Store in the Champs Elysées.

Prices: A one day/1 park pass is available from 47€ for adults and 39€ for children between 7 and 12 years old.

Experience the Gyrotour, a 360° observatory that gently spirals 45 metres (150 ft) up into the air for an outstanding panoramic view complete with commentary.

If you are brave you can also experience a “journey into the dark”, a journey where you will experience how life is for the visually impaired as you are led by a blind guide through a series of specially arranged zones prepared using objects, smells and sounds.

Getting there from:

London: 1h 30m by plane

Paris: 1h 20m. by TGV (high speed train)

Prices: 35€ adults and 25€ children over 5 years old.

LOL, Promised but I must warn you that there are at least 200 km (about 14 hours) to cycle from my place to my favourite park , the Puy du Fou. After all that cycling I am not sure you can manage a swim. Would you?

badcompany99: come on you lazy captain... I am sure you would enjoy it, as I said, I take the easy cheese/wine/dungeons route which is a lot of fun ;-)

Hi Brian: That would be nice, I think that we are so lucky being able to stay here, that promoting our favourite places is just a small contribution to the place that is giving us so much.

I love it Mezo, every bit of it and every day I understand more and more why most of my French friends do not feel any inclination to travel abroad, they have everything they could wish for in here!

Sounds like you have a nice variety of parks in France. I was curious when you said you had visited Disneyland was it the one in France, or the one here in California?

I have not been to anything as large scale as Puy Du Fou, but we used to have a traveling Renaissance Faire that came to our area during the late spring. They set up historical villages and games, but walking around there was hard as the male workers would literally grab the women. I still enjoyed some of the jewelry boxes I bought from the vendors there though, which were handcrafted.

hi SweetiePie, yes, there is a variety of Parks in here, something for everyone.

Answering your question, I have been to both the one in California and the one in Paris. Going around de CA one was hard because my daughter was only one year old and it was the hight of summer. However, the trouble with the Paris one is that the weather is not very reliable and you might end up going there on a rainy day!

I always get around easily at Disneyland because I can walk fast and have learned to dodge strollers, but I prefer not to go in summer for that reason. The weather is hot there in July, but perfect after Christmas when most of the tourist families have kids back in school.

Puy du Fou would definitely be something I would want to see. My dad hates amusement parks and used to take us camping by old ghost towns in Death Valley, so I have always had an interest in real things that people used. However, unlike him I do like theme parks.

What a great hub. We have been to Parc Asterix which is great fun and very French! The French know how to enjoy their glorious country, whether through fine food, fine wine or just having a great time.
