Tim Hawkins is a good clean comedian.

Some things are funny and some things just aren’t! Have you ever been to a comedy show and felt embarrassed by the base and crude humor that is spewing from the mouth of the comedian? I have often wondered why people seem to think that vulgarity and filth are funny, perhaps some would just call me to puritanical, but I have always been impressed by those who can invoke laughter without using base insinuations. In my search for some good clean fun, I stumbled upon a wonderful clean comedian, Tim Hawkins.

When people are laughing, they're generally not killing each other. ~Alan Alda

The famous comedian Milton Berle once said, “Laughter is an instant vacation.” I think that he is so right. No matter what is pressing on your mind, or what trials you may be facing, a little bit of laughter seems to take you away and transcend you to another plane of thought, even if it is just for a moment.

Simply stated, “Laughter is the best medicine” for what ever ills you. I believe that good clean laughter is a gift. Tim Hawkins has a gift to make people laugh in a wholesome robust way.

Tim Hawkins helps us to laugh at ourselves.

Another famous comedian Bob Newhart stated, “Laughter gives us distance.  It allows us to step back from an event, deal with it and then move on.”  Many times a situation that is brewing can be defused by simply allowing your sense of humor to shine.  A good laugh can mend fences as well.  We take ourselves entirely too seriously at times.  How refreshing it would be to lighten the burdens that we face, by gaining some real perspective, and taking a moment to simply laugh.

Tim Hawkins takes everyday situations that we are all familiar with, and applies that simple clean humorous twist to them, showing us it is fun to actually laugh at ourselves.

Tim Hawkins on Marriage

Why Tim Hawkins chooses to be clean.

Tim describes one of the reasons he chooses to be a clean comedian,

“Survival mode, pure and simple. I learned comedy in front of a lot of multi-generational audiences, so I had to find material that would cater to all ages. It’s a thrill to provide a family connection where they can share the experience… and then take a DVD home for another family comedy night. But really, I think my fans are probably just the same people who voted for Sanjaya.”

Tim Hawkins talks about products we buy.

Tim Hawkins thinks clean comedy is easy.

From the Website Tim Hawkins Comedy, we learn this about him:

"With 4 kids of his own and a wife who is winning her battle with breast cancer, Hawkins gets new material daily from the perils of marriage and parenting. But it must be difficult to work clean all the time, right? 'Clean comedy is easy. Funny comedy is hard.' So does Tim think he’s funny? 'I'm not bragging, but one time I told a joke in front of a dead bird, and it flew away. And you can Google that.'"

Clean comedy the whole family can enjoy!

Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face. ~Victor Hugo

With all the perils that we face in our everyday life, from our economic melt down to world peace, isn't it about time we took a moment to reflect on everything we have been blessed with, and simply learn to laugh.

Tim Hawkins is just the clean comedian to help us do it!

eovery,

I may be silly, but I just belly laughed at his rendition of "Cletus Take the Wheel". Yes, I agree with you...good comedy does not have to use bad language and be vulgar!

Jennifers Jumpers,

I agree with you, it takes much more creativity and talent for a clean comedian to get people to laugh. Tim Hawkins is simply a funny guy!

Okay, I finished watching and reading! We are a homeschool family, and when the last video finished, I said, "Now, that's funny!" He climbed down from my lap and said, "No, mom. That was Hil-aiwee-us!!". From the mouths of babes.

Laughing Mom,

I can totally relate to your laughing attack. When I found Tim Hawkins on YouTube, I spent the whole night with my kids laughing away. It is nice to find a comedian you can watch together. Thanks for your comment!

Personally, I find comedians who sprinkle routines with four letter words don't have much faith in how funny their stuff *could* be without the profanity. If the comedian doesn't think it's funny on its own, why should the audience?

This is just brilliant - thank you for introducing me to Tim Hawkins - I don't know the different American accents, but Shakespears done in Oklahoma sounds like it would be a hoot !

I Can Only Eat Margarine (I Can Only Imagine-MercyMe). I wondered if he was the one who sang that. I googled it, and sure enough--it's him!!

My kids have been singing that song for a couple of months. I wondered where they got it!

I really don't want to offend anyone who may be a fan of this comedian; but to be completely honest - I didn't laugh at all while watching these videos.

I am a fan comedians that make me laugh -- period.  Whether it be a "clean" joke or a "dirty" joke; if it is written, prepared and recited well by the comedian -- and I laugh at the performance -- the joke and the teller of that joke is good in my book.

In the Doghouse: You mention in your hub that "good clean laughter is a gift", seemingly pertaining to the old "Laughter is the best medicine" quote which immediately preceded it.  I ask you, why add "clean" in there?  Laughter is laughter, the positive effect it has on your mind and body are the same regardless of whether the joke was "clean" or "dirty".

I don't find swear words and risque subject matter offensive.  Why would I? -- I'm an adult and I realize that "bad" language are just words that at some point in history someone deemed foul.  Of course, I agree that some comedians should not be watched by children.

If I were the sensitive type, I would be much more offended by Hawkins' depiction of Southerners than if he happened to utter the "F" word in some of his bits.  Disrespect and ridicule of a group of people can hurt a lot more than cursing.

Some of the great comedic minds have "foul" material.  Here are just a few: Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Lenny Bruce, Red Foxx, George Carlin, Robin Williams, Rodney Dangerfield.

Heck, even Shakespeare has some risque lines in his works!

Teresa,

Shakespeare with a Southern drawl does give it a new twist! lol

imadork,

I am sorry you didn't find Tim Hawkins funny. I guess that is why we have such a variety of comedians to appeal to different individuals. I personally find a clean comedian wholesome and funny that is why I focused my attention on writing a Hub about "clean" comedy. Different strokes for different folks!

In the Doghouse: Thanks for not deleting my comment. It's always informative to have an opposing opinion on some hubs; even though this hub is not really a debating kind of hub. LOL.

It may seem weird to you that I thanked you for not deleting my comment, but the last somewhat lengthy debating comment I wrote on someone's hub never saw the light of day. Ugh!!! That ticked me off!!!!!!

KCC Big Country,

Glad you enjoyed Tim Hawkins. Thanks for stopping by.

imadork,

I will post almost any comment that is done with respect, even if it is a different opinion than I have. If you have taken the time to state your opinion, then in most cases you should be heard. I have to agree however, this Hub is not really one to debate! lol Hence my apologies that you didn't find Tim Hawkins funny. Thanks for being respectful in your objections.

in The Doghouse, I found Tim Hawkins very entertaining and admire his ambition to present "clean" comedy.

I would like to take imadork to task and state that there is "laughter" and there is "laughter".

I am a Brian Regan and Jim Gaffigan fan..but now, after seeing, and owning all of Tim Hawkins' videos I don't find them as funny. I hate "adult potty-talk". I find it a language for adults that continue to live and talk like a child, having never grown up or gained an adult vocabulary. I think any comedian who can make me laugh about every day things is far more brilliant than those "comedian's" (Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Lenny Bruce, Red Foxx, George Carlin, Robin Williams, Rodney Dangerfield) that have to stoop to childish, foul language and sex talk! There are plenty of these kinds of comedians. Tim Hawkins, on the other hand, doesn't have to stoop so low! He makes me laugh every day as I quote his funny sayings. Tim is also a great musician! I enjoy his music!
