Top 10 Fall Activities to Visit in Texas
76
Fall is such a great time to get out and do things in Texas! The weather finally cools off below 100 degrees Fahrenheit, there is a hint of a breeze and things begin to turn yellow.
I've devoted several hubs to this topic because there is so much going on in Texas this time of year. I have assembled the top 10 things you can do or see in the fall around Texas. These are in no particular order. There are lots of links included to provide you much more information on the topics you find most interesting.
I hope you enjoy the weather and these fun activities!
Corn Mazes
Corn Mazes-if you've never been to one, you're missing out. Click on the link to visit my hub devoted to corn maze locations all over the United States listed by state. I actually have another hub dedicated to Canadian corn mazes.
With the current economic conditions, more and more family farms are looking for ways to make some extra money. Many have found that turning their corn crop into a corn maze after the corn is harvested is a great way to make a little extra cash. Some farms, that have been doing it a long time, make quite a bit of cash.
Without going into a lot of detail here, a corn maze is a great activity to take your kids to, to take you significant other on a date to, or take a group of friends to. It's fun for all ages. Be sure to check out my hub for a corn maze near you!

Haunted Houses
Haunted Houses are for the more adventurous. Try visiting one of the many excellent Haunted Houses in Texas.
Click on the link to visit my hub that lists many of them with links to their websites. Visiting their websites is almost as good of a thrill. Some of them are superbly done.
Technology and creativity has certainly seen great advancements in these haunted houses compared to the ones we went to as kids. The realism is unbelievable. It's a shame these places are really only open for a month or so around Halloween and then maybe the odd Friday the 13th.
Waxahachie, Tx
Visit Waxahachie, Tx for my three favorite haunts. From the ghoulish faces around the courthouse, to the real life ghosts at the Catfish Plantation, to the Munsters at the Munsters Mansion, you'll have a haunting good time.
Click on the link to learn more about why these three places are my favorite places to visit in Waxahachie.
Haunted Hotels-Austin & San Antonio, Tx
Visit the haunted Driskill Hotel in Austin, Tx, or any one of several haunted hotels in San Antonio, Texas.
South Central Texas is loaded with reported paranormal activity. Take one of several ghost hunts or ghost walks in either city and see what fun you can stir up.
All of the hotels listed in my two hubs linked above are beautiful structures, made even more enticing with the prospect of running into some ghostly patrons.
State Fair of Texas in Dallas, Tx (Sept 25-Oct 18, 2009)
Visit the State Fair of Texas. I have two hubs devoted to this year's State Fair. One contains some State Fair trivia and the other is about the fried foods available this year.
The State Fair of Texas has been held at its current location since 1886. You can't miss Big Tex, The Texas Star and fried butter!
Click on the first link to learn more about the fair itself and the second link to learn about this year's Big Tex Choice Award winner Abel Gonzales and his fried butter. He's a four time winner for his creations.
WurstFest in New Braunfels, Tx (Oct 30-Nov 8, 2009)
WurstFest is located in New Braunfels, Texas. It's 10 days of entertainment, food and fun!
In 1961 the WurstFest started out as simply a "Sausage Festival" with 2000 visitors, then it became "Wurst Week", and finally "Wurstfest" with thousands of visitors.
Fredericksburg, Tx Oktoberfest (Oct 2-4, 2009)
Frederickburg's Oktoberfestis located in Fredericksburg, Texas. This small German town celebrates its heritage through Oktoberfest. Join them for great German oompah music, good German food and drink, arts and crafts, children's area and family fun.
The drive along the road to Fredericksburg has always been a treat for me. There are links below to learn more about this picturesque area of the Texas Hill Country.

Sand Castle Days at South Padre Island (October 15-18, 2009)
The 22nd Annual Sand Castle Days at South Padre Island runs from October 15-18, 2009.
For 2009, Sand Castle Days will host 24 of the best sand sculptors in the world! There will be over $10,000 paid out in cash prizes. This festival is one of the biggest and best international sand sculpting competitions in the United States.
I have wanted to go to this for years, but the date always catches me by surprise, because I don't normally think of beach activities in October. I really need to mark my calendar for this one!

Oh, corn mazes!! Lots of fun! Great hub KC!! (Clap, Clap, Clap!)
Thanks Harrisdy! It does sound fun, doesn't it?
Candie, LMAO.....I want so much to find you a size-xtra small husky lounge lizard costume because I really think that would be awesome. And you know I'm going to spot one on Halloween and yell out, "CANDIE!!" and everyone will assume I'm talking about trick-or-treat candy. LOL
HAHAHAHA!!! Just pretend to be talking on your cell phone and looking for your cat that just ran away... ok.. so that's what I do when I accidentally waive at a car that isn't who's I thought it was (pretend to be swatting a bee).
LOL....I bet that's hilarious to see! I'll have to try that sometime! *taking notes...swat bee*
