The Twilight Collection – New Moon Film & Book
New Moon is the second book in the Twilight collection written by Stephenie Meyer. As soon as I read the first book, Twilight, I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next to these really exciting characters. This has also been made into a great film and the New Moon DVD is available to order online this March.
I have my sister to thank for introducing me to these books. We have similar tastes so she knew that I would enjoy these series of books as much as she has.
We were first introduced to the two teenagers Bella Swan and Edward Cullen in Twilight where we discovered that Edward is a vampire who has fallen completely and passionately in love with Bella, even though she is a mere mortal and smells so good that he has to really control his natural desires to stop himself from biting her and feeding on her tantalising blood.
The Plot So Far
After the climatic end of the previous book, we gain further confirmation that Bella really is the love of Edwards’ life and he will do anything to keep her safe.
He understands that the fact that she is around him is putting her own life in danger so he breaks up with her, telling her that she is a distraction.
He simply disappears from her life, leaving her all alone in the woods.
Bella is plunged into a serious state of depression. She realises that Edward has removed every trace of his existence, including photos, the birthday presents he gave her including the CD of the beautiful lullaby he composed for her.
She can not eat, she has nightmares and her family can do nothing to help her.
The state of her depression lasts for a very long time. She is eventually able to get back into her daily routine of going to school but she doesn’t fully recover and really is a shadow of her former self.
New Character In The Book - Jacob Black
We were introduced to Jacob Black in the first book but we find out even more about his character in this novel.
He is a lovely young man who is a couple of years younger than Bella. He is of Native American decent and lives on the reservation in La Push which is about 15 miles away from the town of Forks.
He knows Bella because his father Billy is very good friends will Bella’s dad Charlie.
It is Jacob who is around to help Bella to adjust and get on with her life without Edward.
She is encouraged to spend time with him and finds that his uncomplicated nature is quite easy to be around. He can make her laugh and gives her comfort.
Although she tells him time and again that they are just friends, Bella does become aware that Jacob may have some romantic notions about her.
Just like Edward Cullen, we discover that Jacob also has a secret identity.
The story gets really exciting as it progresses and we see a love triangle developing between Edward, Jacob and Bella.
The final chapters of the book are very dramatic and I couldn’t put the book down until I found out how everything resolved itself. This is another piece of great writing from the talented author Stephenie Meyer.
This has also been made into a movie and the New Moon film is available on DVD. This is due to be on sale at the end of March 2010.
I really enjoyed reading this second book in the Twilight collection and am looking forward to seeing how the action has been translated for the screen
