What would happen if there were no men?
This planet has for thousands of years been controlled and run by men with devastating results that have brought us to the point where the very future is uncertain and insanity, poverty, fear, death and destruction have become a part and parcel of life in the world as we know it. A male-run, or patriarchal society and culture, is based around domination, suppression and competitiveness and it is enforced by armies and police forces who use increasingly more dangerous weapons and technology.
So what is the solution to this nightmare? Leaving out the arrival of messianic deities, rescuing friendly aliens and non-existent superheros, it has been proposed that matriarchy is that answer, and not only will the world be run by women but that thousands of years in the future males as a gender will no longer exist here amongst the human species.
Many people find this hard to conceive or accept but we need to ask ourselves what are males for and what purpose do males serve? The simple answer is that they enable genetic diversity via sexual reproduction. But what a cost to the planet and its other life forms as well as the majority of the human species!
There are other species of life that manage with genetic variation but have done away with males. There are actually very many types of animals, both invertebrates and invertebrates, that reproduce without males and without sexual intercourse but there are none in which there are only males. This proves that it is the female that is the source of all life.
Water fleas (Daphnia species), some types of aphid, nematode worms, rotifers, some species of bee, various phasmids including the Indian Stick Insect (Carausius morosus), certain geckos and lizards, including the massive Komodo Dragon (Varanus komodoensis), some fish such as the Hammerhead Shark species(Sphyrna), are all able to reproduce without males. This method of reproduction is known as parthenogenesis.
Wikipedia defines this form of reproduction as follows: "Parthenogenesis (from the Greek παρθένος parthenos, "virgin", + γένεσις genesis, "creation") is an asexual form of reproduction found in females where growth and development of embryos occurs without fertilization by a male."
The Indian Stick Insect produces generation after generation of females. Males, it is said can occur, but they are so rare that they can be regarded as non-existent and are certainly not needed for the species to survive.
This insect is often kept as a pet so many people will be familiar with it but perhaps not realising that it is an animal that has no need of males.
The Whiptail Lizard (Cnemidophorus neomexicanus) is a reptile that can reproduce by parthenogenesis and can also breed via sexual intercourse with males of closely related species C. inornatus and C. tigris.
For lizards this has given them the advantage of not only not needing the two sexes in order to carry on their kind but also has made it possible for them to colonise new territory. A female lizard can be washed up on an island where she is the only one but can nevertheless lay eggs.
In the Honeybee (Apis mellifera), although males are required to fertilise the queen, this is there only function and the drones are thrown out of the hive to die after the queen has mated. The worker bees are all non-reproductive females. The male is only needed for sex and has no other purpose for this species of highly successful social insect.
Highly respected, though controversial, geneticist Dr Bryan Sykes, who is a professor at Oxford University, in his book Adam's Curse: A Future Without Men, (Bantam), has suggested that men will have died out here within 100,000 years.
That the spiritual creator of the universe and this world is female is not a new idea at all. The Kogi tribe of the Sierra Nevada mountain in Columbia refer to their Mother for the Earth and for the divine creator. The men, who are the leaders of the Kogis as shamans and priests, are actually called Mamas or Mamos, echoing the maternal link to creation. These people are one of the oldest surviving native people that have preserved their culture and traditions with no outside influences.
It was known long ago that the divine creator was and is a Goddess and the sun was originally worshipped as female. This got changed over to a male solar deity to disguise this fact as the patriarchal system was introduced by men. The Goddess never went away though - she just got hidden!
Guru Rasa von Werder believes she has the divine mission of ushering in a world of matriachy to replace the patriarchal one that has brought so much suffering and misery to the lives of countless billions of people for thousands of years and has resulted in the extinction of so many forms of life.
Matriarchy puts forward the idea that male humans have had all these millennia to prove themselves worthy of being able to run the world but have demonstrated they have been unable to do so without causing death and destruction to its populations, the planet's wildlife and the natural environments. Men have been responsible for wars, invasions, conquests, slavery and rape of their victims. The political leaders have shown again and again that they are also liars as well as war-mongers.
Male inventors and their culture of death have devised greater and greater forms of weaponry including the nuclear bomb. Not content with devastation on the planet they are now intent on star wars and weaponising space.
What logic is there in allowing men to carry on like this? Is it not logical for the creator of this beautiful world to take steps to remove those who are busy destroying life on it?

Vaccines are a danger and a con - do some research on this and you will see what I mean. Eugenics had one woman - Margaret Sanger - you are right that was for it but it has been mainly devised and pushed by men.
Women mean well, so it's all good.
Love it!! The women of Avalon had it going on..and the men respected and revered them..what goes around, comes around...hope I am here to see it...
With modern technology it is possible for two women to produce a child. What is not known is that it takes two sperm to fertilize a female egg. One sperm is provided by a man the other is within the egg already produced by the female.
It is technically possible for a doctor to take the female sperm out of the egg of a woman and plant it is the egg of another woman. This would fertilize the egg but the off spring will always be female.
So yes, we don't need men because with modern technology women can reproduce without men.
Interesting stuff. Still humans are not like animals and creatures that don't have the same social abilities and need that we do. Woman could not live long with man. Even if they found a way to make babies without us. The same goes for man. We need an opposite. Woman would get very bored with no 6 packs to fondle after a while!
I have to disagree, Mike! Humans are animals and many other animals have exactly the same needs as us. As for women needing men, again I would disagree. Why do lesbian women need men? I think you find that many would say they don't. Why is an opposite needed? In the example I gave of stick insects there are no opposites - they are all female. Same can be said for the other creatures named.
I think my wife might wonder the same thing at times.
thought provoking hub.. Do you think there would be less violence in a world with no men??
Great hub and what truths! But I feel it would be a sad state of affairs if men cant go beyond this ego state and awaken their own feminine right side of the brain. In this balanced state we could go forward together.
Dont throw the baby out with the bathwater - men can change, women have had to. If we had believed that men were the "gods" they thought they were it would not have pushed us to activate our left male brains and get going.
We now have the opportunity of being our higher and integrated selves together.
Namaste
Linda
Yet another thought provoking and interesting hub.
I have encountered many men who cannot understand the concept of a heterosexual woman not needing sex, and not needing a man for protection etc. and having no concept of a platonic relationship between the sexes. I agree, some women can't live without men, but there are some of us that can, and we are not all lesbians. Some of us just find life easier and runs a lot smoother without the aggressive and competitive male influence. Its a positive/negative relationship and as we know, you can live in a positive manner without the need for a negative influence, but you cant live in a negative manner without the need for a positive influence.
All human embryos are female until an influence of hormone removes part of the X chromosome creating the human male. The creation of the human male is therefore based on the presumption that the female embryo has to lose something to become male, leaving me with the question of exactly what needs to be removed from the female for it to become male. The answer logically lies in the qualities which women have which are absent in men. Great hub Steve.
My Mum, back in the sixties, used to say that if we had female politicians we would have a more peaceful world. Wonder what she would have made of Mrs Thatcher?
Ms Chievous, without a doubt!
Linda, yes, I can see what you're saying but it is possible now that males are being phased out as a matter of necessity for the greater good of all other species! Personally I want to see as much life as possible filling the world and all through my life I have watched males killing it far more than women do - in fact I see the opposite women doing their utmost to protect and conserve life. The "sad state of affairs" is the world as it is and has been under male rule.
Thank you, Lou! This is great: "The creation of the human male is therefore based on the presumption that the female embryo has to lose something to become male, leaving me with the question of exactly what needs to be removed from the female for it to become male. The answer logically lies in the qualities which women have which are absent in men."
Ethel, Margaret Thatcher is a good example of a woman, from a real minority of women, who has adopted male ways in a male system and succeeded because of this.
As a male I feel I need to say that I now feel unneeded and unloved.... T.T
I'm gonna go eat some cake...
Manly cake....
Maybe your looking at this in the wrong way. There are somethings that science does not explain. Maybe we need to look back and think about biblical scripture. Maybe there is a reason that knowledge was regarded as the demise and downfall of man. And you talk about lizards. I know of a certain lizard in the garden of eden that promised Eve more power. And for you believers, it was the downfall of man and women. For those of you who think that this is a solution to the world's problems. I'm a man, I love God, and I think not.
Thanks for your posts, Grey Wolf and Eye of the Storm!
I am fully aware of all biblical scriptures having studied the book and read it all. I view it as a major part of what holds patriarchy together as a world power and control system but there is also a lot of truth in it. I do not believe it is the "word of God" however, but the words of men.
I am a man and I love God too but not the god or war, violence, sacrifice, slavery, threats and punishment!
Wow, what an interesting hub. It reminded me of something I heard on a Science Friday show on NPR. It was about water pollution and how fish and frogs that used to come in two sexes are being found with both sets of genitalia because of all the hormones going into the water supply. But the really shocking thing is that human sex hormones are changing rapidly too--testosterone levels in men are dropping and estrogen levels are increasing. You don't hear about this often, but it's quite serious. It's happening pretty fast. It's from all the hormones from birth control pills and animal hormones used in meat production and so forth--they end up in the water table, the don't just go away.
Kurt Vonnegut's novel "Gallapagos" talks about a future in which humans quietly go extinct because women become infertile, but apparently something similar is now happening in real life with men.
Thanks for the great feedback, Pam! I am aware of all that but thank you for sharing and it certainly supports the claims made by Guru Rasa and Dr Sykes that males are on their way out. If people don't like it then they better hurry up and do something about the environmental pollution.
Meanwhile I have just published a new hub because Kellie Everts/Guru Rasa has had her site deleted at Facebook!
While I agree that men are more aggressive than women I don't necessarily agree that there would be fewer wars or fewer violence in the world if women were in charge. Wars are normally fought because someone has something, land, oil, precious metals, resources, that the attacker wants or needs to survive. Sometimes the attacker wants to simply take it by force, but sometimes the defender has been unwilling to share the resource, keeping a people under control. Being in charge of nations, women will still face the same obstacles and challenges as men do now. Perhaps they would be slower to war, but perhaps not. Having been around women all my live I have seen the level of anger, hate, pettiness and scorn women can achieve. I do think they are the fairer sex, but maybe that's has come about because men have taken the aggressive stand and women are expected and grown to be less aggressive. I wonder what would happen in a world where the men would be expected and grown to be less aggressive and the women are expected take the lead, to protect their land? To find resources that will keep their people safe? To find ways to prevent war. Would they build an atomic weapon to that end? Would they change? How would women change? Would they fair differently than men? As they say, "Only the King knows the burden of ruling".
I would suggest that the ideas of stealing or safeguarding resources or of invasion or defence of a country would not exist because under a matriarchal rule care and compassion for all life would be a priority.
I am certain that there is statistically far less violence in the world from women and certain that there are more women who are animal rights activists.
I would also suggest that seeing as men have clearly failed that women should be given a chance. If they failed as well then there is no answer and I would have to conclude that the human race is a dangerous species to itself and all other life forms! I actually already believe that this is the view of many ETs! The human race has to prove itself as being not a danger!
I often wonder that very question. Your work seem to border on the edge of philosophy. Purely thought provoking. Educational.
Thank you, AIDY! Yes, I do class some of my writing as philosophical!
Divine intelligence is androgenous. Women is their own worse enemy sometimes. I am a heterosexual woman who has chose celibacy peroidically thru out my life. Women have to empower themselves on all levels. The way they are socialized in their society can be the culprit too. My Dad shadow box with me and my Mom taught me to apply lipliner. Females needs balance.Strong-willed, bold, sensual, and strategic, in one package.
Thank you for your feedback, Omi!
Good post this is.
Thank you!
I think that I need to mention that the greek goddess Athena was a war deity. She was a goddess of "civilized" warfare compared to the vicious bloody chaos represented by Ares, but a goddess of war none the less. War is in our nature, male and female.
I happen to prescribe to the belief that E.T.s avoid our planet for the exact reason mentioned. I also prescribe to the belief that if you can't be loved, be feared. When we get to the rest of the galaxy we're going to lay waste to the stars. Glassing plannets and subjugating alien races in the name of humanity. Survival of the fittest, and I look forward to it. Honestly, if they were smart they'd wipe us out. O-rah.
They were smart and they (some of them) engineered us! Indeed we are not allowed to do this:
"When we get to the rest of the galaxy we're going to lay waste to the stars. Glassing plannets and subjugating alien races in the name of humanity."
And I thoroughly recommend Michael Tsarion's lecture The Origins of Evil for an explanation on the subject: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8360601521
I love this hub! Really! I believe we are all living a balancing act right now here on Earth - the Goddess definitely needs to make a comeback and help balance the situations! As a species we probly need to eliminate our perceived need for superstition and even hero-worship. Striving for some unattainable and probably unproductive vision of a sexless society and a homogenous society is not only scarey, its futile. Innovation and the stimulation of human interaction in its multiple facets may be the very thing to save us, our planet and our future. So, even though I too have suffered through some subjugation and attempted humiliation by the opposite sex, I've also experienced the same things from ignorance on the part of my own sex. I love the world the way it is, and want to live long enough to see us all continue to improve it. What good would it do to try to eliminate males?
Nobody is trying to eliminate males but they are being removed by Mother Earth or God or however you view the Creator because they have endangered too many other life forms and their own species and are simply not needed. That is the idea! Actually I personally think it's a lot more complex than that because in my view of the universe there are very many alien races that interact with this planet and many of them have males and females so I don't know if it will happen. It may be just a theory. My viewpoint is that for the sake of life on this planet it would make a lot of sense because as I have explained before it is mainly males who kill and destroy humans and animals, trees, plants and whole environments! Their leaders refuse to live in a balanced or sane way!
I mean nothing by this, I'm just curious. How can you be talking about a creator god AND say aliens made us? Aren't they mutualy exclusive unless you say god created the aliens and told them to make us, at which point things are getting really convoluted. Further if the aleins did make us who's to say that we weren't created for war? What if we're just an alien BOW? What if this planet is a weapon stockpile?
Good stuff, Grey Wolf, and here comes my personal take on it: yes, 'God' made all the countless billions of 'alien' races too and many of them have played a part in what we have here. Michael Tsarion says that one of these races intermixed their genes with us in a bid to make a slave race from us. Many of them are co-creators as we are and use genetic manipulation just like scientists here are doing and are believed to have done in Atlantean times. The whole creation, which is 'God' is constantly changing and creating and experiencing itself from all its parts, which are an infinitesimal number that is for us truly mind-boggling! The input from these parts makes up the reality they experience and creates the future. It is very very very complex because we are dealing in countless worlds and also countless dimensions BUT for the sake of this planet at this point in time, it is clear that the humans on it need to sort the mess they have made and are in out! The matriarchal future is a potential solution that happens to make a lot of sense to me. Other solutions such as the second coming of Christ, the arrival of all powerful friendly aliens who will sort it out for us etc are just control system myths, wishful thinking and fairy stories. I am looking for an answer that can be worked with for the benefit of all other life forms as well as humans here.
If the Earth Spirit/Mother Earth or other forces far above our understanding have decided that human males are being phased out in the interests of preservation of life on the planet then that makes as much sense to me as anything else and would seem a solution.
I am presenting information - it is something I am good at doing. The complexity of the whole situation is vast. The subject of exopolitics is vast. As Andromedan contactee Alex Collier once said about the state of this place "It's a mess." I have a hub presenting a lot about him and some of his talks on video.
Absolutely wonderful article written by your expert hand as usual. We have had a few tough queens in England, and always make love to a woman if she wants you are your up the creek without a paddle. I love my wife dearly , yet she could discard me like I am no better than a slice of lunch meat. She is part Cherokee Indian. She has a touch of ruthlessness in her DNA. In a nightmare I once had she left me for a Cherokee brave. I had to find her in the mountains and fight the mighty young brave in hand to hand combat for my wife back. Straight threw his heart in my dream, I killed the brave with and Indian lance. It was the only way I could get my wife back so that she could fix my coffee for me in the mornings. I told her that I wanted two sugars with a touch of Cremora. She told me to kiss her you know what.
I may write about her in a hub. Who knows. GBY my Friend.
I am glad to hear you found it inspiring! Thank you!
Ok, say the whole matriarchal hierarchy thing happens. What happens when that special time of the month comes around and Ms. Presedent has her hands on the football? Our planet would be an irradiated wastland by X-mas. It was a plan but I think that I'd rather have reletively minor wars once every couple of decades than the apocalypse once a month.

The Polio vaccine was discovered by a man. It was devastating, but only to polio viruses.
Eugenics was popularized by a woman. That is an ongoing devastation for both genders.
