World's Most Expensive Hairdresser in Action

Would you travel to another continent or pay $20,000 to get your hair done? Plenty of people do.
Would you travel to another continent or pay $20,000 to get your hair done? Plenty of people do.

Certified by Guinness World Records

Where else do you go to find out the most anything? This entry is in the adjudication section, so I can only assume that the title was disputed and Stuart Phillips still held victorious.

Ambitious from the Beginning

Stuart Phillips began his climb to hairdressing fame at an early age. He was only 16 years old when he began training at the famous Vidal Sassoon studio. Phillips completed his training three years later and headed from his home in London to Sydney, Australia to work in top salons as an International Stylist. He was considered so good, that his styles were televised on MTV and shown at local events.

While it would seem that Phillips was born with an innate talent for hair, it wasn't until he left Sydney and worked for three years in Asia that he realized the importance of decadent customer service. The customer care and technology that he saw while travelling Japan and Indonesia really affected him. He set himself a goal of one day opening his own salon, incorporating the ideas he had seen while abroad into his vision.

Phillips returned home to London after his working tour of Asia and began styling hair in the very upscale Covent Garden district. It was here that he met Tabitha who soon became his wife. Tabitha had a background in taking care of airline VIP's, interior design and the acquired knowledge that comes from extensive travel. Together, the Phillips' had the perfect combination for a highly successful business.

World's Most Expensive Hair Salon is Born

There is no shortage of hair salons in the U.K., nor was there in 1994 when the couple began to manifest Stuart Phillips' long held dream. The Phillips' were well aware of how much competition they were facing. They knew they had to have something special and unique that set them apart from the pack and make them outshine the others.

Here are the 3 main objectives they held for their new business, directly from the Stuart Phillips Award Winning Hair Salon site:

  1. To create the most relaxing atmosphere possible
  2. To have highly experienced and talented stylists and colourists
  3. To provide the best possible service in London

The results of making these objectives the mainstay of their enterprise surpassed their own expectations. Business was good and so was the salon's image. The next step was to work on the image of the star stylist, Phillips himself.

Stuart Phillips as a Competitive Bodybuilder

From Casual to Challenging

It's a fact that bodybuilders have trouble buying clothes off the rack. Normally, they stick with baggy tees, jeans, jogging pants and the like. Fitted clothing is a specialty item in most cases. That's why Stuart Phillips was always in casual attire - he was a competitive bodybuilder.

Tabitha, as many good wives do, managed to talk her husband into switching his wardrobe to something more upscale and befitting the image that they were portraying with the salon's appearance. Quickly developing his own style, Phillips became known for his seemingly unending supply of shirts. The clientelle noticed and said something, which gave the clever Phillips an idea. He put forth the challenge that if any customer could catch him wearing the same shirt twice, they would get a free haircut. It was a brilliant plan. Word spread like wildfire, with fashion magazines and newspapers all wanting the story along with pictures of his wardrobe.

Not Just a Stylist

Stuart Phillips' talent and standards have given him a reputation in the media, too. He works on movie sets and international commercial shoots, as well as doing radio guest spots and appearing on television.

The Stuart Phillips Award Winning Salon still holds to the original commitment to customer care that they began with. Every staff member, regardless of their title, go to great lengths to pamper the clients.

World's Most Expensive Hairdresser - Local Prices

Naturally, Stuart Phillips' price list is in his local U.K. currency. I'm not sure about the conversion rate at the moment but I believe that the prices translate to HIGH. If you'd like to check it out, just click on this Stuart Phillips Award Winning Salon link.

World's Most Expensive Hairdresser - International Rates

But wait! Those prices may be higher than most of us are used to paying but they're still a far cry from the $20,000 mentioned above. If you want to pay the really big dollars, you just need the International VIP Service. Now, we're talking.

If you want a decadent adventure instead of just a haircut, then one of the three VIP packages may be just perfect for you. The day of your appointment, you will be Stuart Phillips' only client.

I'll give you a brief rundown of the three choices, starting with the bargain basement option.

The Gold Package - £8,000

If you're counting your pennies, then The Gold Package is for you. The least expensive of the international services, it still comes packed with some great treats:

  • limo ride from the airport to the salon
  • champagne lunch upon arrival at the salon
  • hair consultation
  • head and scalp massage
  • cut and blow dry from Stuart Phillips himself
  • instruction to maintain your styling and suggestions for different ways to wear it
  • a selection of L'Oreal products to take home
  • limo ride back to the airport after your appointment

The Diamond Package - £20,000

Okay, you've been saving those pennies for awhile now and can afford the next level. This is a two day/night package and includes a personal driver, assistant, personal shopper (if you want).

  • chauffeur driven limo from your home to the airport
  • first class flight to the UK
  • limo will pick you up at the airport and take you to one of Britain's finest hotels
  • champagne lunch
  • Stuart Phillips will escort you to the salon
  • extensive hair consultation
  • head and scalp massage
  • haircut
  • instructions to maintain style and suggestions for different ways of wearing it
  • selection of L'Oreal products
  • limo ride back to the hotel
  • day two to spend as you wish
  • limo ride back to the airport on the final day
  • limo ride from airport to your home
  • a portion of the proceeds go to 2 different charities

Second day blow-dry, translator, personal chef and personal security are optional and may be extra. I'm sure the security would be, not so sure about the others. I did read in one place that they were, but I'd rather err on the side of caution. I'm certain the helpful staff could confirm the true answer for you.

The Platinum Package - £Wow! Anything you want! Contact the Stuart Phillips Award Winning Salon to get a quote.

Now, if you don't like flying, don't worry because Phillips will come to you. Again, contact the salon for further information. You'll find the email by clicking the International VIP Service link.

World's Most Expensive Hair Experience

Odds are that I will never make it to the famous Stuart Phillips Hair Salon to give one of these packages a try so that I can report back on my personal experience. If you read the details of the available packages, you quickly realize that these are not just hair cut appointments, they are mini-vacations and luxurious ones at that.

And this folks, is how some people live. Are you one of them?
