INSTANT HEALING: PARALYTIC ARM BY 4 MEMBERS

WITNESSING PARALYTIC ARM HEALED
Poon Lum was sitting in a wheel chair in Toronto Western Hospital when I first saw him as I visited a Vietnamese refugee family sponsored by the United Church during the eighties. Canada had accepted a very large number of Vietnamese refugees during the Vietnam War. A Caucasian lady asked me whether my sister Julie and I would like to interpret for a Chinese Vietnamese family. We agreed. The father, Thanh Quang Phu was admitted to the Toronto Western Hospital for paralysis and I visited him at the hospital.
On the same floor, I saw Poon Lum, a man in his seventies sitting there in a wheelchair by the door. He looked so forlorn but he had a pleasant face. I spoke to him, but his speech was slurred and I could hardly understand his Chinese dialect. I asked the nurse and she told me that Poon Lum would be transferred soon to the Dewson Private Hospital. His right arm was paralysed and I decided to visit him at Dewson Private Hospital. I asked Bro. Toby Too, his wife May, his daughter Yun Lee and son Yun Sheng who were newly baptized a year ago to accompany me. They were very keen to help when told that Poon Lum had no relatives in Toronto and that he was alone in Canada. They had compassion on him.

DEWSON PRIVATE HOSPITAL, TORONTO
One Sunday we decided to visit Poon Lum. While Bro. Toby parked the car, the rest of us went into Dewson Private Hospital. The hospital had moved him up to the third floor of the hospital. We decided not to wait for Bro. Toby and started to pray for Poon Lum. We prayed for God's power and mercy to heal his paralysed right hand. As May and her children prayed, I did not know what made me open my eyes and saw red lights flashing and running up and down on his paralysed right hand. It continued during the prayer. When we ended the prayer, Poon Lum was able to move his paralysed right hand and he made movements as though combing his hair. We were so excited and laughing so loudly that the Korean nurse came running into the room. She asked, "What's wrong? What has happened?" We replied, "Poon Lum can move his arm. Praise and thank the Lord."
We informed the Korean nurse what had happened. We had prayed for Poon Lum's right hand to function and God had healed him. Now he was able to move his right hand. All glory to the Lord God! Hallelujah! The Korean nurse was very happy to hear of the miracle and asked whether we would go and pray for a Korean man who was also paralysed. We answered, "Yes, of course. We would be very happy to help anyone who needs help."
The very next day, some Korean lady called me and gave me the name of Cho Rin Tae, a paralytic in West Park Hospital. This story will be featured in another article.
Bro. Poon Lum body was still paralysed. I really do not know why we only prayed for his right hand to be healed.
MEDLINE PLUS: PARALYSIS
Paralysis
Also called: Hemiplegia, Palsy, Paraplegia, Quadriplegia
Paralysis is the loss of muscle function in part of your body. It happens when something goes wrong with the way messages pass between your brain and muscles. Paralysis can be complete or partial. It can occur on one or both sides of your body. It can also occur in just one area, or it can be widespread. Paralysis of the lower half of your body, including both legs, is called paraplegia. Paralysis of the arms and legs is quadriplegia.
Most paralysis is due to strokes or injuries such as spinal cord injury or a broken neck. Other causes of paralysis include
- Nerve diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
- Autoimmune diseases such as Guillain-Barre syndrome
- Bell's palsy, which affects muscles in the face
Polio used to be a cause of paralysis, but polio no longer occurs in the U.S.
Bro. Poon Lum had paralysis on his right arm and his speech was slurred. Since he spoke a different dialect, we could not communicate too well. However, he could understand when we spoke, but we were the ones who could not really understand him.

BAPTISM ON CHERRY BEACH, LAKE ONTARIO
Bro. Poon Lum was baptized on June 6, 1981 on Cherry Beach in Lake Ontario. God had provided a very strong, big and tall student from Sabah, East Malaysia to carry him down from the third floor of Dewson Private Hospital and from the car into Lake Ontario for the baptism. For all those who are unfamiliar with our baptism, the church follows the mode of baptism according to what was described in the Scriptures like living water, lake, ocean, river. See (Mt 3:13,16; Mk 1:9,10; Jn 3:23; Acts 8:38).
BAPTISM IN NEW TESTAMENT
Matthew 3:13,16 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. And Jesus, went up straightway out of the water ...
Mark 1:9,10 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. (vs.10) And straightway coming up out of the water, ...
John 3:23 And John also was baptized in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there:
Acts 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

BRO. POON LUM DIED AT THE AGE OF 91 YEARS
Poon Lum's paralysed right hand was healed instantly by the prayers of a newly baptized mother, her daughter, son and I through the power of the Holy Spirit in prayer. The father's job was to drive us to the hospital. The faith of the family was strengthened by the healing.
Bro. Poon was taken in his wheel chair along the street from Dewson Private Hospital on Dewson Road to the previous church on 369 Harbord Street, which was about four blocks away by two different members each sabbath for more than ten years for Sabbath Services. They had to carry him down two flights of stairs for there was no elevator in the private hospital. The church benefitted from Bro. Poon Lum in that the members could feel compassion for him who had no friends or relatives. The youth learnt a little bit about hardship when you are in a foreign country and not knowing much about the language. He was extremely happy when he was brought to the church where he was with the same people of ethnic background.
Bro. Poon Lum died at the ripe old age of 91 years old. Thank the Lord God for his long life. May he rest in peace after all those years in Canada without family for he was unable to bring his family to Canada. The church members became his family. When the church moved to 69 Sunrise Avenue, wheels transport brought him to church. Thank God for this transport. All glory to the Lord Jesus Christ for His mercy and compassion!
