When the time comes to moving house, or moving your office, consideration must be paid to the safety of your furniture during the transportation process.

It doesn't matter if you're moving to the next street or moving to the next state or even another country, you must take the proper measures to ensure that your furniture and other items are protected from scratches, dents and the general movement related damage that can occur to unprotected items.

Moving blankets are the perfect protectors of your belongings, especially of furniture, mirrors, large electrical appliances etc. With that taken care of, let's delve a little deeper into what we know about these all important packing materials and how they're used and why.

What Are Moving Blankets?

Moving blankets protect the surfaces of your furniture and appliances from being scratched when they rub against each other during transit.By placing a moving blanket between tall furniture items such as wardrobes, chests of drawers, bed frames and electrical appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dishwashers, cookers etc their surfaces will be provided with a layer of protection that will prevent them rubbing against each other.

That rubbing action when goods are in motion in the trailer or load space of a truck or delivery van is what causes scratches and other damage if the items are not protected. Moving blankets provide that protection so that your belongings arrive at their destination in the same condition as when they left their former home.

What Else Are Moving Blankets Good For?

When you think, packaging supplies and shipping supplies, packaging materials and looking after your belongings whilst in transit during a move, most people think of what they can pack stuff into. Things like cardboard boxes, plastic, aluminium or steel moving containers and the like all spring to mind.

When you think about holding everything together, you may think of sturdy string or rope to tie stuff tightly together, shrink wrap to bind a pile of boxes together on a pallet, or packing tape to seal up those boxes so they don't fall apart when they're manhandled by the removal guys. Then you may think of what to protect stuff with, like foam rubber dividers, or small polystyrene shapes or even bubble wrap to protect their fragile items such as plates, glassware, fine china etc.

But when it comes to the big stuff, like wardrobes and refrigerators, there really isn't much to beat the versatility of moving blankets to be able to cover and protect large areas of surfaces that could otherwise be liable to damage.

Is there much else that moving blankets are good for?

Well, they can also go down on the floor of a trailer or delivery van's load space to stop things sliding, and they can be used to completely wrap individual mirrors and glass cabinet doors and shelves to protect them likewise.

Finally, at the end of a long, hard day's work, the removal guys can use them to sit on and also to keep themselves warm as they travel home in the back of the truck...
