Compassion on the Street
Scottish poetry
Compassion on the Street
The sun swept in without one word,
The natural part of a breaking dawn.
The birds started chattering insistently,
Even before it was morn.
The party goers were heading home,
Staggering down the street.
Incomprehensible slurs and groans
At any random person they meet.
Yet here I am with sober eyes,
Pondering about destiny.
Here I am,
To listen and care
Simply a person to be there.
Some people think I'm nuts
To stay awake all night,
Picking up the pieces
And making sure you're all right.
Why would a person do this?
And what's more for free?
The answer my friend is simple
It's all about destiny.
I love my city with a passion
And I want to see it transform
Instead of superficial fashion
I want to see Kingdom Values reborn.
I believe that God's heart is aching
With every footstep we bring light,
With each step we are making
Kingdom value steps through the night.
We never know our full impact
What difference it makes that we care
We are demonstrating God's Love and compassion.
Just by faithfully being there.
