Give Me Old Friends
Give me old friends.
Through the thicks and thins.
Don Quixote and I,
Need to write our names in the sky!
We need to kill a windmill.
We need to climb another hill.
We need to tan another hide.
We need to ride another ride.
Let’s chase another sunset.
Then chase the sunrise, you bet.
We need only the speed,
Of a tumbling tumble-weed.
Let’s have less pave,
And a little more agave.
Let’s leave civilization,
That is now a corporation.
No more down-sizin’,
Just another hill risin’.
Thanks for being there.
When the cupboard was bare.
Thanks for the toast,
When I needed it most.
We’ll be here now,
And no moment is wasted.
While drinking the worst coffee,
That man ever tasted.
Let’s try to be,
The kind of men,
Who often break,
Before they bend.
So roll another one.
Just like the other one.
Let’s toast and cheer,
With coffee or beer.
And we’ll be the biggest liars,
That ever sat beside fires.
People will do what they will do.
God will sort out what is true.
When I was down and out,
And at my wit’s end,
You stood by me.
You remained my friend.
Give me old friends,
for the bitter ends,
the better ends.
And make my new friends,
my old friends!
