I would if I could
can you see past today
He sat down,
And looked her in the eyes,
he said I love you,
then begin to cry.
He said he wanted,
For her to only be happy.
He didn’t intend
for life to be this tragedy.
They had been together,
For a long, long time,
Been thru quite a lot,
But sometimes it seemed fine.
He had tried,
talk to her a hundred times,
she said it’s better now,
but only in his mind.
She said a lot,
Her temper raged out loud,
She would say I won’t you gone,
Until she calmed down.
He would say,
I have nowhere to go,
I would be on the streets,
Somewhere in the cold.
So life went on,
He died in side a little every day,
He wanted so much more,
How did it get this way.
Sometimes he would
Think I’m walking out that door,
But she would
Keep the kids, the house and more.
So he stayed
Until the end he tried to make it work.
Trapped by life,
Money, kids and the courts.
They asked him,
Why did you tough it out?
Because I wanted my life,
More than caring for myself.
He sat alone,
And looked back on all the years,
He watched his
Kids grow up, and held back his tears.
He tried to be
A good person thru it all,
Maybe just maybe,
That was his down fall.
As he pondered over
How his kids turned out so good.
Would he do it all again,
He answered with a smile,
I would if I could.
