Moments to treasure: A day at St Davids .

Last Bank Holiday Monday we took the grandchildren to St Davids ( Tyddewi) in South Wales and what a wonderful day we had.

St Davids Cathedral lies in St Davids City and can only be described as one of the most enchanting gems in the UK let alone Wales.

Although called a 'City' it is in fact a miniature city being no larger than a village in fact and is the spiritual heart of Wales.

It was traditionally founded by the Welsh patron St David himself back in 550 AD and has since drawn many pilgrims the world over for a millennium and a half.

I took a couple of snaps of the inside of the cathedral before being politely told that no photos were allowed to be taken without a permit.

Therefore I have added some that I found with the correct credits attached.

I hope you enjoy our visit as much as we did.

My song choice today is our National Anthem sung in our mother language Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. (Land Of Our Fathers).

The cathedral is massive, Eddy! It amazes me that many buildings are still standing centuries after they were built. Is the cathedral still in use or is it purely a tourist attraction?

It looks like you all had a great time. How long did it take to see the entire property?

I love it when your grandkids come stay with you. You take us all on vacation and treat us to such wonderful adventures! Thank you, Eddy.

It is a wonderful treasure indeed and I cannot say for sure how long it took to look round because the time went so quick but we were there for a few hours.

Afterwards we took a look round the shops where Dai and the kids had a fashion parade with all the hats; daft lot ha ha!!

Yes the Cathedral is still in use and it is closed to the public at 4 pm daily as they have a prayer service then and also Sunday services .

Thanks for your enthusiastic following Sha and wishing you a great weekend.

Eddy, we in the States have no frame of reference when looking at architecture like that. I look at those buildings and my jaw drops and I'm speechless. The oldest buildings we have are about 300 years old, and they are few. Magnificent pictures, and of course the grandkids are adorable.

Have a wonderful weekend my friend.

What a fantastic place this is. I love the architecture inside, the lovely exterior, the green, green grass and the use of boulders as a fence. The play area, the souvenir shops make the place so much more interesting. Plus, the owl on the tree. Was it real, or was it painted? It was sheer perfection.

What a beautiful photo easy and poems of a beautiful day! I have heard of St. David's Cathedral. Thanks for the tour. I didn't know that St David was the patron saint of Wales. And your grandchildren are beautiful also. They are so charming and cute in these photos. You are truly blessed. The photos you took are the best ones, too. What a great holiday. Voted up + and shared!

This was wonderful Eiddwen. The video was touching and I almost stood up when I watched it. The photos were beautiful. You all seem to have had a lovely day! I thought the photo with Ellie 'pretending' to lift the rocks was neat. I voted the Hub up, pinned and shared it.

Eddy, this is a beautiful hub -- so colorful, such lovely photos. I feel joyfully exhausted as if I walked the entire grounds with you. Thank you for sharing this beautiful day. Voted up A B I and shared. I have to go back up now and look at the photos again. Ancient architecture just really touches my soul and your photos do that for me.

Whoops! had to come back and edit -- I love to see Dai and the kids having such fun trying on the hats.

Wow! Eddy, so many photos! Lovely. Appreciated that carving on the Abraham Stone, too. I've been trying to draw some Celtic designs like that - they're not easy at all! You saw so much more than we did. The day we visited St. David's Cathedral my husband was unwell and we didn't see half enough, so I really appreciate all those photos.

Hi Eddy,

Thank you, through your images, bringing back such wonderful memories from my trip to St.Davids, the smallest city in the UK. It such a pleasant place to be. Your grandchildren seem to have enjoyed it as much as I did. They are fortunate to have a Grandmother like you. Best wishes my friend.

Eddy; although I've visited South Wales many times (mainly to Neath, Swansea and Carmarthen, and various castles and coastal stretches in and around the area, I have never been to St David's. Reading and viewing your hub, makes me realise it is one place I will have to visit one day. Thanks, Alun.
