Pride And Prejudice And Zombies...Book Review
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith
More Book Rave Then Book Review
Being a firm fan of classic novels and having a love of zombie movies this book almost jumped off the shelf into my hands.
I am not even finished it yet and I have too have a rave. This book is not what i expected. Its better!
Having read this Jane Austen book as a teenager, I have had a long love affair with Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet, and I didn’t want that exploited by a cheap hack trying to have a giggle.
Seth Grahame-Smith is a skillful writer who has weaved his magic to combine his world almost seamlessly with that of Austen's, keeping beautifully in tune with the language and time of the original novel it is hard to tell where Jane finishes and Seth starts.
Zombies?
A mysterious plague is gripping England and the tiny village of Meryton, The dead are returning to life!
Having zombies on the roads and roaming the fields adds a new feel to a wonderful story with all the same class conscious gentry and social prejudices themes of the original, but now with a ball busting, zombie slaying Elizabeth Bennet.
The plot is basically the same, just transformed into something fresh and surprisingly gripping.
Still Raving
I cannot give this book enough thumbs up, so very well crafted, a wonderful comedy of manners, civilized banter, a zombie menace and of course love.
This is a book that will without a doubt attract new readers of this wonderful classic; especially as liongates entertainment is adapting the book for a movie(which was going to star Natalie Portman until she dropped out, but other actress such as Scarlet Johansson, Anne Hathaway and even Emma Stone have since been considered). Which will, as we have seen in the past boost even more interest in this bestseller.
(And being a fan of zombie movies I can’t wait!)
So if you’re looking for something a bit different to read, that is truly an enjoyable lighthearted experience then I cannot recommend this book enough. (It also made the Australian 50 books you can’t put down list )
Pride And Prejudice And zombies The Book
Seth Grahame-Smith is also working with Tim Burton on another movie adaptation of his other best seller Abraham Lincoln, vampire hunter as well as working with the famous director on other projects.
Sounds all good to me
