Simple and Effective Ways To Increase Followers and Traffic

Updated on April 7, 2012

This hub was created specially to angelenastanford for her request and question on how to increase readership , followers and increasing her overall traffic in poetry.

Let me start off by saying I am not a poetry writer but I will try my best to help out with the information and experience I gained from day one of writing. Pardon me if I have any mistakes.

I always consider the mechanics of writing a good poetry writing is about the same with other writings. I am not denying that there are various factors which attract one's writing but the main factors will always be the same. Here are the breakdown of them all.

Writing at its best
Writing at its best

Quality check

This the one and only thing I stress really a lot to all writers. Regardless of what you are writing, make sure you are producing a quality content. Quality content is the only effective long term method which you only do it once and the effects will last a life time. Simply by having a quality content, you are going to get a lot of readership as time passes by and same goes to followers.

I learned the hard way for this one in my starting writing career. I made a mistake by posting nearly everything without even bother to recheck. The effect is clear as I am only getting one, two or no readers at all even though I have more than 50 topics hanging around (not on HubPages though). The turnaround was when I started to work on a hub here and took me about 2 days to complete it. Instantly, I gain about 15-20 views per day for a few days and now, it starting to stabilize at about 8-15 views per day constantly! Now, whenever I produce an article, I will recheck it from capsules to capsules and trying to leave it for a couple of days 'remodeling' them until I am happy with the whole article. It takes time and it will definitely affect the time needed for me to achieve 50, 100 or more hubs but I am happy all the hard work paid off.

If you want to be good at what you are, you can read and self learning. If you want to be great, start asking questions!

Accept advises and never stop learning

Getting advise from the veteran writers is also one of the way to achieve good readership. Taking myself again for example, I am happy that one of my hubs are getting an average 25 to 30 views daily but at the same time, I have another hub which is having 65 to 85 views per day! I am definitely curious on that and I tried to do 'modifications' and yet I am not achieving anything. Therefore, I went over to the forum, posted the link and asked forumers for their advise.

Create healthy comments and communications

Ask for their point of view or you will never know
Ask for their point of view or you will never know

As a writer, you got to communicate with your readers constantly to know what they are looking and any thing you can improve on.

I love this part. In the case of having a comment (or more), reply to them. They might not read it back but others will definitely read on the comments. Your main objective is try to create a healthy comment and communications from your readers. From the comment, you can roughly estimate what they really want from you and your writing. You can also improve on your writings as we might sometime overlooked at certain things.

Being active and involving on the net and forums

As a writer, you got to market yourself. You got understand that being a writer is a challenge and you will be competing with thousands if not millions of both new and veteran writers. Time waits for no one. Use every opportunity you got immediately and you are going to make it! Think of ways you can get one step higher from the rest and you will see the effect of it within one week (or less).

You must be semi-active in various forums and be there to learn and share knowledge. By being a little bit more active, you might look up on you and start to notice you. That's when you get your little traffic from forum which could become a steady one if you can cultivate them effectively.

Backlink is vital to a success of a writer

Making it attractive, backlink and promote

Another thing that plays an important role is make the article as attractive as possible and market them. Alike the above, you can start to backlink and promote them anyway possible to increase traffic. Do bear in mind that promoting and backlink effect are short term. Once you get the traffic flowing in, start with a few proactive measures such as producing interesting articles or even asking for comments to improve. I did wrote a hub about backlink and you can check it out.

Think of attractive titles and tags

Besides that, you got to think of a famous and catchy title which could rank you higher than the rest. It is challenging but it is all worth while. You can think of effective tags and keywords that people might use to find and search for xyz poetry in Google or Yahoo! Check out the Keyword Tool from Google. it works well and I really love it.

A Writer's Breakthrough

Breakthrough is vital for a writer
Breakthrough is vital for a writer

Last of all, my personal opinion on this; A Writer's Breakthrough. Let me share with you something over here. I have wrote a lot of articles and yet to achieve satisfaction on the traffic per day until sometime last week. One of my hub got featured and instantly, it became a web-sensation (not really but I liked the sound of it). Oh yes, it did become famous and now, that one hub is giving me a lot of traffic daily. Regarding on how to go about it, I have personally wrote it on my blog. Check out the box on the right for more information!

Summary

Finally, on top of all that, you got to be patience. You have started and yes, it is a good step. However, remember that it takes time and lots of writing before you can be a good writer. Anyone can write but to write good article, you got to learn and start asking! Do not put pressure on yourself and enjoy writing. The traffic will slowly increase as time passes by.
